wonder if there's a hardtop option, cause I doubt anyone would want to be seen driving that car with the soft top on, blech.

I agree, as a Lotus owner, it's kind of laughable to hear a 2800lb car being labeled "lightweight"

Well, my first reaction was WOW!!! But no real roof, door pulls, radio, or A/C seems a stiff penalty for only 176 pounds - and the same weight as the Boxster I had 10 years ago. Maybe that would have more of an appeal as a Club Sport Cayman with a more stripped down interior.

But, I did see that the 2010 Boxster S will be getting 320hp like the Cayman S.

Having owned an Elise for 5 years I do know them rather well. I absolutley love the car for all of its attributes. For pure driving pleasure there is no replacement. However, when considering all elements of an ownership experience I will have to say that the the Lotus is not stellar when it comes to build quality. Further the FRP body on the car is IMHO is a negative focal point. Fragile and expensive to repair.
The next time around I am prepared to pay a weight penalty for a better built car overall.
I know that the Boxster Spyder is still portly in comparison to the Elise but I would expect the Porsche to realistically take down a stock N/A Elise in just about every category(braking, slalom, and acceleration). I also think that Porsche should be commended for taking a shot at this market especially since it is a regular model and not a limited # special edition.
I'll have mine with one option, PCCB's(ceramic brakes) @2,761 lbs +/-

Works out to about the same to me.

2,100 lbs, 240 hp=8.75

2,800 lbs, 320 hp= 8.75

That top looks worthless and I think they should have shaved weight somewhere other than a/c, radio. Cool idea though.

I like the wackiness of the top...I am curious if the rear opens fron to back like a clamshell or if it opens like a normal trunk. I'm guessing clamshell and that those latches where the top stretch to are how you open it

I think this car is a target for vandalism. I can see some hooligan stealing the soft top and cutting the door straps just for the fun of it.

On a related note. Is there any news for the next generation Boxster? Is it suppose to come out in 2011 (when my TT's lease is over ?)

wish they would make a 550 spyder or new model as opposed to using the boxster. Seem's a car that big to start with defeats the purpose. Especially when you go and take out the radio and all the other stuff. Dare I say pointless? That may be a little harsh.

I hear they are working on a lighter entry level car.. I do like this one though, it's a step in the right direction..
