Car with four doors

Looking for suggestions. Need to replace 95 BMW M3 which has been my winter car the past few seasons and has 170K miles.

Needs to have a back seat. My spouse would like the car to have four doors. Looking to spend around $50K ballpark. Used is okay. Needs to be adequate during winters and am willing to buy snow tires if needed. Needs to be more than adequate the rest of the time.

A friend is a Audi fan. Others I have considered:
Cadillac CTS-V
Pontiac G8 GXP
BMW M5 or M6

Thanks for your consideration.

How can you say any of these would be good in the winter... they are all RWD. Then again you used a m3 as your winter beater. You must not live very far north for this to be possible. What state do you live in?

Doesn't have to be great or even good, just adequate during the winter on freeways and plowed city streets. Live in Wisconsin. I do like RWD better. AWD seems to work for some too.

BMW 550i. Snow tires and traction control will get you through the winter.

I have a vauxhall vxr8 which is pretty much the same as the Pontiac G8 IIRC.
Great cars with masses more space than the German cars with old school V8 power and handling. Ok, not the precision drivers car but that why I have the 211.

In the UK you can get silly power for not much cash with 600 wheel horsepower not a problem and reliable. Well it is a 6.0/6.2 corvette V8 after all

Horses for courses but well worth a look.

Easy, V8 M3 sedan or Audi RS4. I had a 97 M3 sedan which was a blast. They don't make a 4 door M6.

How about a Saab 9-3 Sport 2.0L Turbo Aero pkg? Way below your budget but a lot of fun & looks good. I bought my wife a 9-3 last year & love it. GM powertrain without the same crappy interior we've grown to expect from the Big Three. Only downfall, not AWD.

Thanks everyone. Some new options to consider. I don't look forward to spending the time in dealer showrooms. In addition, not all models are easily available here to test drive and I appreciate you sharing your experience.

IF it were MY 50k (which it isnt) I would do the following:
sell elise for 27ish
buy 07 exige S for 40ish
buy sti/evo for 30ish or used for 24ish

Pocket the difference for beer (or vintage solid state amplifiers from avatar ). Evo/stis are so great to drive, so practical, and so cheap to own I really don't know why anyone needs a nicer daily driver.

If you are stuck on not owning a fwd car saab has awd as a option & you can get a turbocharged v6 in the 9-3. I still do not know why they didn't give it 350hp instead of the 280 it comes with. In fwd form they actually handle quite well... MUCH better then my 9-3 viggen

there are GREAT deals at the dealerships....

New M3's are nice untill you read about how expensive they are to maintain when the warrante is out..... probably cheaper to drive a lotus esprit v8

The transmission on the M5 is crap.

I'd go with the EVO X MR. That was hands down on of the best handling cars I've ever driven. Incredibly fun.
