vf3 or tvs probably.

VF3 is intercooled and keeps stock ecu.

TVS is more effecient and runs standalone.

Probably a turbo/supercharged Z, Corvettes are fast especially with head/cam.

Not a stock Z. I had no problem dispatching them several times quite easily (however, this was back in 2005 when they only had 287 hp).

I love my Lotus, but it is not fast enough.
I have lost more races than I have won. Its depressing.

Lotus is too conservative. They should have put the most powerful, and upgradeable 4 cylinder engine in the elise/exige, but they did not. They chose a toyota engine that Is great and all, but it is essentially not upgradeable. It seems 400hp is the max hp for the 2zz if you throw $20,000 at it(in a lotus, shut up gtrasta!). The 2zz cant even be bored out to a higher displacement! (the stroker is only good for 1.9 liters)

They should have used the k20, or even better, the Honda f20c (247HP NA power!!!):

Engine Of The Day: Honda F20C - honda s2000 - Jalopnik

...power per dollar and stress on the engine both make the TVS very difficult to beat - it's how the motor should have come stock, a clean 300/200*...

*probably closer to 320/205 at the crank, but i'd be happy with a conservative 300/200

This is the only thing holding me back it the inability to tune the engine much. I wish I could swap the 4B11T from my Evo X into a Lotus. 2 of our forum members are dominating Redline Time Attack one with a 540whp Evo X with stock internals (8500 Track Miles one it no Issues) and the other with 620 whp Evo X. Its only a 2.0L. I wish the Lotus engine was half that tunable and Id already own one.

...285 wHP is plenty fast in these cars, and you can push it even higher provided you're willing to risk the wear and tear - honestly, not much can keep up with a well-driven elise at those power levels...

My current BOE TVS Elise (325hp) runs 0-100 mph in 8.6 seconds. 80-120mph takes 6.2 seconds. (4-5 quickest).

Just a few numbers tossed out there (using Cartest2000)...
haha, you should have included a newer zo6 in there dave....

STOCK C6 Z06 Corvette (505hp) runs 0-100mph in 8.7 seconds. 80-120mph takes 5.1 seconds.

It's still in 3rd gear... I'm in 5th!

Straight line drag races are for white trash people who know nothing about automotive engineering.

There is a reason they call drag cars "funny cars" because its funny anyone cares.

You are not making much sense. You want more power, but yet you also stated (twice) that you were not comfortable with the speed. You don't need more power, you need driving instruction or more seat time.

right, thats why all my cars would demassify any form of elise/exige around any roadcourse. or street race. thats funny, or fun.
that said, the elise is a fun car to drive.
what are you driving these days agent one?

everything is a tradeoff. ill say some of the heavily modded evos hold some lap records at roadcourse tracks but im not sure they make for good street cars at that point. not sure.

if i had another elise that i wanted to throw a ton of cash at, i might look at putting lower compression pistons in it among other things, THEN boosting the stink out of it. that would be the way to go to build max HP while retaining the 2zz block.

every car has tradeoffs...the elise is a very unique driving experience but it wont be the fastest car out there.
decide what you want the car to do, then buy the car that does that.

Please don't be offended but I'm sure most professional drag racers would school you when it comes to automotive engineering.

LMAO

dude, that's no joke...

but seriously, I doubt that a vette or Z or suped up boi racer could keep up with the Elise in a tight cornering road. Of course there will always be an exception to the rule, but in 90% of the cases, it's not happening.

Recently, my friend drove his Mini with me up South Mountain, a tight cornering, unforgiving mountain road. When I reached the top, I had to wait at least 3 minutes for him to catch up.

When he arrived, he said, "You know, it's not the fact that you took those corners at +80MPH that amazes me, before you lost me... It's that you stayed in your lane while taking the corners at 80+MPH."

I think that says it all really... The Elise is a scalpel-like driving tool and has few peers at this price range.

I don't care for going fast in a straight line. Especially in the Elise. It's boring.

@ evomind, Elise... and yeah your Vette is fast. But it isn't as fun to drive as my lotus, and its certainly not interesting. Oh and the comment in your sig. Where I come from, the redneck comment is made about Vettes. Most think its a tacky rattlebox-land-barge and you need a mullet to drive one. I'm sure you look cool in yours though.

@ zcoupe, I was talking about fans.

@ the1sen, yes. Simple people like straight line driving because its cheap to find a car that will do it.

What's most amazing is the price of the Elise, this insane driving tool with power, and cornering ability.

I liken the Elise to a 2 stroke motorcycle. The 2 stroke is touchy, jittery, not street legal, and a general bitch to ride. But when ridden properly, there is no faster track tool. You can corner harder, brake later, and carry more speed through the turns on a TZ250 than any 4 stroker (unless I am just out of touch here).

Then again, the 2 stroke makes a lot of sacrifices. Undoubtedly, this is a niche product, not unlike the Lotus.

Invariably there will be those who crave more power, and they make superchargers and turbos for that, but still it's not enough. To those people, I say "GET A MOTORCYCLE!"

I do not disagree at all. Just in a nice dream world it be nice to have an engine that would be easy and affordable to tune/modify. I guess you can not deny toyota's reliability maybe that is why they chose that platform. The current aluminum engine in the Evo X was not out until Last year so it would not have mattered. Prior Evo engine was an iron block (bomb proof but super heavy). I purchased the Evo cause it could be fast in a straight line and in the twisties if needed be. I have just grown to hate the image. I think the Lotus gives off a more mature image it would just be nice if had a little more straight line oomph.

I would not owa a vette due to the image of a vette driver, which to me is worse than my Evos boy racer look. I respect the car, but could never own one.

to each his own. ive owned all 3 in question.
i understand wanting more power. many folks here were driving miatas b4 going to the elise, so they think its a rocketship already.
as far as stereotypes, ive never seen them propulgated more than right here on this board.
(seems any car that may have a performance advantage over the elise ALWAYS has to have something negative attached to it)
plus, with the elise, you can pretend it cost 200k.

lotus went with the 2zz because that was the best they could get at the time.
they tried to get k20 i believe, but were turned down flat.
as far as small FI engines go, i prefer the 2.4 they put in the srt4s. great little motor.
