i must admit i am not very familiar with the evo x. nor have i driven it.
the 2.4 used in the srt4 is not all that similar to the 4g63 i didnt think....
owned both. world of difference between the 2.4 and the 2.0.
dodge did a great job on the srt4, you cant beat the engine and tranny.
too bad its FWD. that motor would rock in the elise and its very tuneable. bulletproof too.
as it is, the 2zz is a great engine that puts out a ton of power for a 1.8.
unless you are rockefeller i would just S/C the elise or buy something that has the performance characteristics youre after.

I learned by the age of two that it takes absolutely no driving ability or skill to mash the gas pedal and go in a straight line on a highway. My 92 year-old grandmother could do 180 down I-95 without blinking - and she has no license and is half blind. You can buy straight line speed (big deal) - you can't buy driving ability.

BTW, good to run into you again, Evo!

Darksol, the Lord Z and I can hang with a Z06 to about 100... It's that little bit after a 100 where it's like But that's OK--- there's always a turn coming up on the track

Lotus should give Mazda a call and buy a boat full of the Mazdaspeed 3 engines for the Elise. Direct injection, very little turbo lag, relatively light, near 300/300 power in stock trim. The 3200 lb. Speed 3 gets great performance and economy from it. My calibrated fuel economy in highway driving at 60-65 mph is 36+ mpg. Nice 6 speed tranny as well.

How does your vf2 run in 80 F heat? Mine seems down in power and the hesitation is really bad below 4000rpm in anything over 80F.

Are you using a boost gauge?

Of course now with my vf3 I'm putting down 292 to the wheels and not much can keep up anywhere other than the 800+hp ones which still blow me away (as well they should). But that is pushing this little 2ZZ pretty hard.

Take it to the track, a stock elise can hand any just about any street legal Z or vette it's ass though.
vf3 unopened engine? Is your 292 whp number on a dynapack?

My vf2 is 292 as well. (dynapack)

The Mazdaspeed3 engine has no top end. It really runs out of breath after 5500. I don't think it matches the characteristics of a nimble car like the Elise/Exige.

hey mini! i hope this finds you well.

but mini, were not talking about "driving ability," were talking abt cars.
what car can do what.
i always hear that from guys in slower cars...."its all abt driving ability!"
then after they lose they whine about how it was the other car that beat them.

@ zcoupe, I was talking about fans.

@ the1sen, yes. Simple people like straight line driving because its cheap to find a car that will do it.
thanks!
seriously, you are so misinformed. my z didnt rattle, is lighter than most of the cars folks here ohhh and ahhh about, and ive never seen anyone with a mullet driving one. again, thats propulgated by fair minded individuals on this board, methinks.
however, my lotus elise, DID rattle a whole lot. worst car quality wise ive ever owned. still a cool, fun car though and i loved it.
just to get you up to date though, since owning my 06 zo6 (best all around sportscar ive ever owned, emphasis on all around), ive owned an 06 viper, a noble m400, and currently i own a superformance gt40.
all of which have been pictured here and there on the board.
any questions?

Well both Phil and I added a TVS to the mix, LordZ did the VF kit...

Here's my TVS vs. stock dyno:

Stock car did a 0-100mph in 12.0 seconds flat with 167whp - current car does it in 8.6 seconds with 286whp.

Mine is OK, even in 100F heat. Yes, I have a boost gauge. I was losing some boost until I discovered a loose hose clamp on the intercooler, now it's about 9 psi again at higher RPMs. The only hesitation I get is a little "flat" spot at very light throttle at lower RPMs (around 3,000RPM).

I wonder how many years the corvette will have to be just about the best bargain in the sports car world before people give it its due respect? Corvettes have been pretty awsome cars for 12 or so years now, and people still call them mullet mobiles and straight line only cars. The worst optioned vette will leave a stock elise for dead at any speed and handles pretty damn well. The best optioned vette will absolutely embarass an elise in accelleration and handle just about as well...

I buy what I like so I have an elise and an old porsche. If I was shoping for the highest performance/dollar I would look no farther than the ol plastic fantastic.....

I drove the 370Z and the GT-R yesterday. The 370 just about put me to sleep. I took it back after 15 minutes.

The GT-R was incredible, as I had expected. I went out for 45 minutes and had a blast with it. I can't find a fault with the car in any area. Brakes, acceleration, cornering, finish and ergonomics were all spot on. The downshift throttle blip was perfect. The transmission goes into Manual mode as the default when you start it and if you want to drive in Auto it has to be shifted manually. If you use the paddle shifters in Auto it defaults right back to Manual and needs to be set again into Auto. It's definitely on the list of possibilities.

Last week I went for a short ride in one of AMS STI cars and that thing was an absolute bullet. 410 HP at the wheels. Only negative is that it was owned by a guy in his early 20s and no doubt it has been beat to death.
