Did the salesman help you with that maneuver?

If not my technique when the roof is on is as follows:
  1. left hand on sill as far back as comfortable
  2. right hand on bottom of A pillar (I started using the steering wheel but don't like putting sideways stress on it)
  3. right leg out onto ground and head out of car
  4. start to rise out through opening
  5. with weight on left hand hop left foot further backwards
  6. straighten up
This all flows together smoothly with a little practice

That's not me, and I'm glad

I'm quite flexible, so finding a way shouldn't be so hard. I have heard that the driver gets out much easier, since they have a steering wheel to grab on to.

You might like the Elise then. It really is a fun car to drive. If you're more interested in fun than numbers get the Elise.

I found it much harder to get out of the passenger seat than the driver seat. Not that I needed any additional reasons to avoid the passenger side. =)

I have driven the 370Z. Fun car, better daily driver. But it's not the Lotus.

This is my suggestion for choosing a car. Imagine yourself owning the 370Z. If a Lotus drives by on the street, will you wish that was you??

Oh absolutely I would be jealous. I don't want to base my decision only on looks. The Elise is absolutely stunning, no one can deny that. On the rare occasions I see one in town, I turn my head and stare. The car is an eye magnet.

The people that buy an Elise based primarily on looks usually end up selling them quickly, at a great loss.

okay yes it handles the best...but to say it is a rare car is like saying taco bell sells mexican food...they dont and it aint

i live in a small town in south dakota...there were 6 or 7 elises back in 2007. that the main reason i sold mine. i dont like to see myself around every corner

they are gr8 cars though, if you can live with the small annoyances. hard ingress egress, loud cabin, british non attention to detail rattles.

I live in Phoenix, and I have never seen a Lotus on the road yet. I've seen 2 at the autocross events, but that's it.

Same in Dallas - unless my coworkers drives his in (rare) or unless I'm going to an HPDE (also rare), I will go months without seeing a Lotus. And Dallas has a fairly large car enthusiast population.

After my first test drive yesterday, I did a search on YouTube and saw a number of fools falling out of the car but there is this British fellow who has it down to a Tee. I'm too new to link the video on here but I'll keep trying. I practiced his method today (because I went back to Norm Baker) and tested a 08 SC. Wow! I'm so hooked. So smooth and powerful, well-balanced; a cross between a serious Go-Kart and a Formula One. I guess. Never driven a F1 but the cockpit and steering wheel feel awesome. I had a chance to test its guts (the salesman encouraged me so I went for it...) and I loved it. I also liked that you can drive it mildly in traffic and it behaves so well. I stayed 3 hours after while they tried to work out a deal to take over my leased FJCruiser. I know I'll drive a Lotus back from Vegas to LA soon. Just not sure which one. It's down to: "How much per month..." right now. So will it be the "Kick Butt" 06 Yellow Elise with 13,000 miles or am I told old at 62 for a bright yellow semi-exotic, or the bit more expensive super-smooth, well-manered and powerful 08 Elise SC.... that one only has 458 miles on it. Yikes.... hmmmm I can see myself in both.

True again. I think I got the Lotus malady before I even test drove one. But now I know that it's virulent. I better do something about it!

It sounds to me like the styling of the car is becoming more and more important to you in addition to the ride / handling experience.

That said- The EVO in my opinion is going to be a letdown. The Lotus cars do draw more attention (not always a good thing) but it's unique Exotic look and the fact that you don't see everyone driving them everyday is what makes the car feel more expensive / rare that it REALLY is.

The Lotus is more $ to maintain, not as comfortable as a daily driver, but remains one of the most rewarding ownership experiences out there (for the money especially). I tell people all the time that it feels like I should not be having so much fun for the cost of actually owning this car.

In the end they are not for everyone but that is kind of the point really! Would suck if everyone had them! You just have to own one for yourself to really begin to understand all that a Lotus really is and how different the car, the company, and it ideals REALLY are! Nothing else like it.

You're absolutely right tko...
I find the styling of that car extremely 'erotic.' And when combining that with its performance and handling, it's a total package. The only question I have is should I splurge a bit for the SC which is very smooth (and white) or is it going to be okay for a 62 year-old to tool around in a bright yellow little sports car!!!! Last night's sleep has not brought counsel to this dilemma. I might need more sleep....

Yeah, you get one and attend our Novice AutoX school on the 5th of Dec. It would be down to the EVO vs. Elise. Elise is the looker hands down. The EVOs really handle for a sedan. If you get the Elise, supercharge it.

If you're gonna do it, then do it. Get yellow (the best color) and don't look back. Besides, being bright yellow, you're easy to see and should therefore be safer from the bone-headed SUV drivers out there. If you decide you want F/I in the future, there are plenty of aftermarket options to choose from. Good luck either way.
