So let me get this straight, This Abarth started out as an Elise based car:

.. And now is just a tiny hatchback? Awfully different.

no, Abarth is like AMG to Benz, M to BMW. They tune cars.

Except they usually forget a few details- like on one of the older abarths, you couldn't fold the front seats forwards to get through the coupe type doors into the back seat, for the abarth-installed bucket seat hit the roof.

This one seems a little too sane

Abarth 500 and Mito in Lugano

We were in Lugano Switzerland on the Italian border for a while last May . One night I was out on the balcony and heard some wicked engine sounds in the park next to the hotel. I looked down and an Italian car club had pulled into the lot. I saw a beautiful Abarth 500 so I grabbed my camera and ran down. One guy had this gorgeous MiTo very tricked out in pearlescent white with red and green stripes ending in the classic Alfa racing clover logos ! I think the Mito GTA is still a concept even over in Italy but this car was very close, if they ever come over here I would do one up just like this one !! I saw several Abarths on our travels and they are ultra cool. FYI the name MiTo comes from combining the 2 main Alfa/Fiat city names Milano and Torrino...

Here I am in London with a Fiat 500 Abarth. It was a neat little car, cheaper than a MINI Cooper S, but very nicely appointed inside. It will be very interesting to see if it shows up in the US.

Some bad merger news

We should have figured they'd screw this merger thing up too. This is really depressing.

Even Lamborghini made an SUV. They're inescapable.

As long as it re-introduces Alfa to the U.S., it's OK with me. Maybe I'll see a GTA version of this...

Alfa is supposed to be coming back. Unfortunantly, from what I've seen, we won't be getting the 159/Brera/Spyder, but rather whatever car replaces them.

I wonder if they'll have an SS package for the Abarth.

Some of the Alfa goodies that you do not see (unless you open the hood):

Alfa MultiAir (available for the Mito), a hydro-electric system for operating the engine's intake valves.
