It's ok. Jags are cool again now. At least that's what the commercials tell me. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5NAYv2WPrtk&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5NAYv2WPrtk&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> I would drive an XKR.

...the most active jaguar community i've found is jag-lovers.org, but gordo's actually somewhat correct that they're still trying to figure out how this internet thing works: jag-lovers.org originally started as a mailing list and grew into sort of a peculiar hybrid web-based forum host for their expansive mailing list community...
...take a look around and you'll see what i mean - they're very substantial and dynamic both, but very proprietary in their evolution from antiquated message board formats...

Well, it's official. I pick up the Jag on Wednesday the 20th up near Baltimore. And then drive it back home to Florida..
I acqired a Liquid Silver XKR with charcoal interior and every option, including the Alcon racing brake upgrade... Should be a fun car... and the wife doesn't mind because it's an auto... (but it's a sequential six-speed ZF tranny with paddle shifters) Looks just like the one I posted several posts back. |

Congrats! What is sticker price on the 2008s anyway? (no need to reveal details about your purchase)

Well the '08 XKRs range from $92K for a basic coupe, to about $107K for a loaded convertible.
The factory is offering dealers $18K incentive, and $5K cash to customers. So you start at $23K, and then negotiate around the actual invoice price. Basically, you can get a coupe or convertible from $23K to $30K off... I have seen a new (not demo) as low as mid 60s... |

I'm looking forward to your impressions after you've had it a while. My wife loves that car and it will likely be her next car. Good luck with it and enjoy.

Wow, that does sound like a fantastic price... I was picking up my Elise from Lotus/Jaguar of Thousand Oaks this morning and took a look at the Jags. Would be a fantastic daily driver, IMHO. Congrats, again. Post some pics when she comes in...

I'm suprised people remember the F-type concept. Im not sure why I do... I have an issue of Automobile magazine somewhere with that pic posted earlier on the cover. Must have been early 2000's. 01 sounds about right.
The used and leftover XKR's are the best. As a buyer you gotta' love 50% depreciation in less than 3 years! Best deal in that class of car I think. |

Love that F-type concept, I think people remember it because it's just sooo good-looking. The concept also had some very nice interior controls (really cool toggle switches etc).
The XK-series is beautiful, I had a tour of the factory where they're built (Castle Bromwich plant near Birmingham) a few years back. Very impressive, and it was clear that the quality was top-notch, I think as someone else mentioned the Ford tie-in had a positive influence on quality. They are very big into the Japanese approach to continuous quality improvement (Kaizen). Lots of robotics (amazing!) where it's beneficial, but also lots of hand-craftsmanship where that makes sense. If you love the marque - or even if you don't but just appreciate industrial processes and British history*, it's a great tour - free, but you must make arrangements well in advance. * - It's led by pensioned Jag employees - mostly older fellows who've worked for Jaguar forever, and have great stories, and the facility used to crank out Spitfires and Lancaster bombers during WWII (heavily bombed during the war of course, so most of the buildings are not original, but some are). The place just oozes Heritage.

I recently test drove the 2010 XKR and XF on a closed course and wasn't overly impressed. Maybe the Elise spoils us on the unique handling of lightweight cars, but I felt like I was trying to drive a speedboat around the course. It had plenty of torque and power (albeit delayed a bit, damned automatics), and LOADS of grip (way more than I expected for such a heavy car), but quite a bit of body roll despite their super advanced electronic suspension system.
The inside was comfy, but definitely more luxury than any sort of "sport" feel to it. Some nice features though, and loved the high end details like B&W speakers rather than some general consumer brand. Also I really preferred the look (and feel) of the XF (4 door) over the XKR for some reason - and I am DEFINITELY a two door coupe kinda guy, not so much a sedan one. I just think the low low hood up front looks way too old fashioned in the XKR. I keep thinking hot-rod phallic symbol. |
