It looks like the Elise may have some competition
270HP, 1874 lb, mid-engine. Sounds like a real competitor.

Fer crying out loud you silly pedantic repost/search function Nazis, lighten up. I'm on here every day and I missed this one - wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for the repost.
Honestly, the search function on this forum leaves much to be desired. Thanks Marcinr for bringing this to my attention.

I am on here just about every day...never saw it either. Sweet looking car with a great power to weight ratio.

This bothers me because it makes me feel like Lotus is so far behind the curve by using the same old Toyota lump which makes barely adequate power in NA form
Why can a little company like that start sourcing a powerful 4-cyl motor so easily? What am I missing in this story? Am I wrong to feel like Lotus should be using a better motor? Are the vehicle prices similar?

It's worth noting that their 270 hp engine is turbocharged, so it's directly comparable to the Exige's supercharged engine, which has comparable hp from smaller displacement. "Barely adequate" is hardly how I'd personally describe the Toyota lump. ![]()

Reminds me of the horrid Hardcastle and McCormick car, the Cody Coyote only smaller...WAY overstyled and looks almost impossible for the driver to even look out his/her own window fully due the the severe upward slant of the window right in th line of sight.

The outputs of the S 260 motor and this one are similar, however, it's probably a safe bet this vehicle is the "entry level" model and higher HP variants are gonna be offered in no time, whereas the 257hp motor on the Exige S 260 is on an $80k vehicle and is probably nearing the limits of what Lotus will raise the output to. ![]() Maybe I should be optimistic and say that all these signs are pointing to a new engine in the Elige's future! ![]()

Nothing worse than McLaren styling. (Not that I'm happy with the changes made for the series. And I detest tinted headlight covers.) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

As for the styling, it´s a huge rip-off but it must be quite impressive when one sees it driving on the street. For some, price is no issue. For me it is. I will not lose time dreaming of a car I will never be able to afford and therefore never drive. In my case, I thank Lotus every day for giving me the chance to drive my dream car thanks to its affordable price. Anybody can make make a fvery ast car from 50.000 Euros on. But an affordable middle-engine new car for less than 40.000? Lotus starts it at 37.000 here in Europe and that make them my personal heroes. And leave them without competition on that price-segment. Now if Lotus could make a 140 hp entry-price little brother to the 2-eleven ^^
