Lotus Loses To An Icon

Yes, the Lotus Elise was parked in a lot where my camera was not, and I was downgraded to using a filthy little cell phone camera... but in all honesty, that's all it took for me to see what I needed to see.

The gorgeous Aztek next to me was so intriguing that I actually switched spots so that I could park next to it.

Quote:
This car could not have been more instantly hated if it had a Swastika tattoo on its forehead... With its multiple eyes and supernumerary nostrils, the Aztek looks deformed and scary, something that dogs bark at and cathedrals employ to ring bells.
Many have called the Aztek an abomination against all that is progress in "Design". However, after seeing this incredible machine next to my Lotus, I beg to differ.

Notice the clean lines, creative use of space, and symmetry - how perfectly the wheels fit into the wheel wells, and how the unpainted lower body yearns to be dirtied.

As you can see, the Lotus, by immediate comparison, can't hold a candle to this triumphant feat of engineering prowess.

As evidenced by this photo, the Aztek outshines the Lotus in every way imaginable.

What may I ask does that mean? I could have posted another elevator thread.

...m... with such a compelling lineup, I don't dislike the General at all.

Today was a day of days for me. I finally get it. Epiphany! The Aztek takes everything mediocre, unacceptable, sub-par and downright repugnant & puts it all into one very attractive package. Lotus has fewer engineers, resources and capital, which is why our car is so much lower on the totem pole.

You see, Lotus just doesn't get it. They're so busy trying to be innovative and raising the bar that they've missed their god given right to something better! Complacency and apathy in the workplace and failure ridden management are the only way to go!

It's the new Mercedes of its' time.

I really don't know how the Aztec made it to production. Its mind boggling. I love my lotus but GM has some fabulous cars as well. Honestly I think GM could make a better lotus than an actual lotus if they wanted to. I don't expect that to be a popular view, however. The chance of having mangament support such a nich focused product is nil. I am taking some buisness courses currently (an engineer usually) and there is a very interesting book called "the inovators dilema". It basically describes how the very nature of large componies prevent them from making successful niche market disrutive products.

The elise is such a spectacular car becaus lotus actually had the balls to bring such a minimal pure sportscar to market. Not really because there were any huge technical innovations. Granted the chasis construction is clever but so is the hydroformed aluminum z06 chasis. A properly optioned corvette is basically better than an lotus in every concievable way except one: fun to drive.

I'm with you, the Aztek is way ahead of its time. Unfortunately you did not get a picture with the best automotive option ever - that tent thing that fits onto the back. That is my back up retirement plan - an Aztek with that tent thing

Hmm... still available.

http://www.aztektalk.com

The four of us that drive them in public could meet up. Start a new aftermarket supplier, called SectorWTF.

Hey, that tent thing is actually something even more important than you realize.

Do you recall Aliens, the part where the Queen is laying eggs? The Aztek was never built by GM, it was spawned. And then, it spawned others like it as evidenced in this image.

Admit it - an Aztek giving birth might improve the looks.

It could have given birth to this:

If I owned this, I would paint 4 fingers on each side so that it looked like it was pulling the tent open. Just saying....

I hope you were careful with your door, don't ding the Aztec! It will be a collectors' item soon especially with the tent. Nothing could match that camping experience.
