Maximum Bob Puts Out The Pepsi Challenge!
Just read this on Jalopnik, and I HAD to share...
GM's Bob Lutz Challenges America To Duel, Jalopnik Accepts - Bob Putz - Jalopnik ![]() "GM's Bob "Maximum Marketing" Lutz today challenged any comers in an unmodified production sedan to a duel in a Cadillac CTS-V. We accepted, challenging him to race our own Wes Siler in an AMG C63. Lutz agreed. Two men enter... The challenge took place earlier today on a conference call about GM's new marketing campaign: "May The Best Car Win." The theme of the campaign is the numerous new vehicles produced by GM that are as good, or better than, the competition. Given the GM products we've driven lately, we're not surprised they'd be pushing this message. And to prove it, 77-year-old Bob Lutz told reporters he would challenge anyone in any production sedan to a race around Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway and try to beat him. We're not sure he expected anyone to take him up on the challenge but we couldn't let it stand. We love the CTS-V, but we're at least going to try. So we told him we'd do it if he named the time and the place, and he accepted. The details have yet to be worked out, but Lutz already told us and the assembled reporters "You're running into a trap because if you beat me by a second on the lap time, we'll just advertise the price difference." We'll see..." I wonder if he has to be in the car when they beat him... it seems that swinging a bat around in that closed environment would be difficult... I LOVE how the Maximum Putz uses the price difference at the end, and doesn't even realize the AMG is CHEAPER! Must be carryover effects from the Volt.

2009 CTS-V
0-60: 3.9 sec 1/4 mile: 12.0 sec 2009 AMG C63 0-60: 3.9 sec 1/4 mile: 12.3 sec Not that those are particularly good ways to measure a car's capability, but it does show they're pretty similar cars. Admittedly, I'm not a Mercedes fan and it may be a marketing trick, but the CTS-V is a good looking, good performing car (if you're into big, heavy sedans). Lutz may get away with it. -Brad

The new V is awesome... a coworker has a black 09 and it's simply a monster.
Interior is still "meh" to me compared to it's German competition though. They have some cheesy bling that's perhaps supposed to make up for the fit and finish of a proper luxury sedan. Other than that... I haven't heard any complaints. Nothing has started rattling or breaking yet ![]()

![]() IT'S ON MAN!!! OCTOBER 29th!!!! F@#$ YEAH! DUDES, I say we get someone near Monticello with an Elise SC and some street cred to go up there and school those bitches!!! "It's official. Jalopnik's Wes Siler will race GM's former vice-chairman Bob "Maximum Marketing" Lutz on October 29th at New York's Monticello Motor Club. Better news? You may be able to race Bob and Wes. May the best car win, bitches. If you're not sure what's going on — here's the back-story. In a media conference call last month, while announcing the General's new "May The Best Car Win" marketing campaign, Bob Lutz told journalists he'd race a CTS-V versus any production car on Laguna Seca out west. Matt Hardigree came up with the idea to call him out on his shenanigans. I agreed he should let Bob know we'd be willing to put Jalopnik's road test editor Wes Siler up against the "Maximum Madman." Lutz accepted and now it's on. Yes, that's right, we'll be racing Bob in a Jaguar XFR (Mercedes wasn't too keen on the idea of the C63 AMG vs the CTS-V, but that's OK, we're comfortable with the XFR) and better news? You can be there too. Do you want to have a go at Wes and Bob in your own production vehicle? Here's how it's going to work. ● You go to Fastlane and read Bob's post. ● Then go to this website and sign up. ● Then we help pick the folks we'll see at Monticello. ● Then it's on like Donkey Kong on October 29th."

I'm rootin' for Bob all the way. That guy's blood is higher octane than any of ours, that's for sure.
Maximum Bob FTW! ![]() ![]() I've seen a CTS-V in action at Laguna Seca, and it was VERY quick. Some expensive bright blue 4wd Audi AND a Z06 spun trying to keep up with him, and my Elise couldn't even keep him in sight for half a lap.

![]() GM's "Maximum" Bob Lutz opened up his maximum mouth this evening to tweak the rest of the luxury performance sedan universe in response to Jaguar dropping out of the Jalopnik Vs. GM "CTS-V Challenge" race set for Thursday. As always, it's filled with maximum hyperbole. What more should we expect — his product's making the rest of the luxury sedan landscape look like a bunch of also-rans. The breathless Josh Oliver from The GM Source asked him what his reaction was to Jaguar's early pull-out. Here's the response from Bob: "I think it means that the European high-performance sedans are excellent, even superb cars, but quite possibly not ready for racing laps right out of the show-room. The CTS-V is not only quicker, but will, in totally untweaked, stock form, run hot laps at any race track until it runs out of fuel. Transmission oil and diff oil temps are stable, engine oil temp doesn't go up, brakes get a bit more pedal travel, but don't fade. The street tires get a tad greasy, but handling and control remain excellent. "May the best car win"! (It wins automatically if the competitors won't show up!)" He's right. He's already gotten the best of Mercedes, Jaguar and Audi. We've yet to hear from BMW or Porsche — so please, feel free to e-mail me below if you're interested in, you know, standing up for your honor.
