Looks like a 575 or a Maser Grand Turismo.

Can't believe Ferrari is advertising with a micro-site the way Porsche would...

Is it just me, or does the new California (which, apparently, is NOT the new "affordable" model) look like a Hyundai? Way too much surface styling that just seems to try too hard. I know it's a first impression and I hope it looks better in person, but . . . the details kinda remind me of the first generation Tiburon. Boo! Hiss!

What they did get right, though, is the name. According to early reports, this is not built for race tracks, but for dentists to cruise the boulevard. From the Top Gear site:

"Ferrari has aimed to make a car that's luxurious and useable every day, because it knows there are many thousands of newly ultra-rich around the world who don't see why a supercar should be grumpy, uncomfortable and difficult to drive through town.

To achieve that California has a lot of technologies new to Ferrari.

It's the first time they've made a front-engined V8. The first time they've done direct petrol injection. The first time they've done a folding metal hardtop. The first time they've had a dual-clutch transmission instead of the F1 system that jerks and stutters at low speed. The first time they've had multi-link rear suspension, to maintain handling but improve ride."

Well, at least it's still fast as stink and sounds great. Sounds weird to hear that it's the first front-mounted V8, but I guess that's true.

When I see a list of "firsts" like that I immediately jump to concerns about reliability at least for the first couple of model years.

I really like the looks. I'm not a big fan of the 612 or 599. This is the first f-car I've lusted after since the Testarossa.

Profile is pretty slick.
The stacked exhaust pipes remind me of something you'd see from a TVR car.
Wheels seem dated.

Hood scoop looks vintage California spyder. That part I like. It's difficult to really tell until it's seen in person. No manual shifting!

I want one. The perfect car for cruising around town or the weekend trip to the beach.

Looks really, really good. Nicely complements the other cars in the Ferrari line. I could see this topping the F430 in sales volume.

It isn't. The 8C is based on the Maserati Coupe/GrandSport chassis that dates back to the mid 1990's. It is pretty dated but cheap and easy for Alfa to develop into the limited production 8C. After Maserati decided to base the new coupe off the Quatroporte chassis, Ferrari appropriated the stillborn Maserati chassis for the California. The car is the least hardcore entry level Ferrari in quite some time. Some of the detailing looks funny in the pictures, but it should be a big hit with the McMansion crowd.

Ahh...I knew Ferrari would at least make it look good. Does it really have a damn hard top? That is a SHAME. Even Aston Martins and Bentleys don't have hard tops.

hmmm ... somehow the pics remind me of a Tiburon.

IMHO, Ferrari will never make an "entry level" car. Ferrari's entry level car is a used Ferrari.

I can't wait for people not-in-the-know asking if that's the new Saturn Sky! Ha ha ha.
