Passed a ZR-1 today in my Elise...very cool car

Of course it was being driven by an old man, but the car had presence. The carbon brakes looked as big as my front 16's and the wheels were highly polished like a show cars paint. The rear tires must have been 345's like a Vipers'. The car must have been brand new because of the way it was being driven...probably off to Barret Jackson's.

Oh yea, and it was whisper quiet...strange considering 630? hp

What is the running price after markup?

There were a few pre-production ZR-1s on the factory floor in Bowling Green when I toured the Corvette factor in 2008. Their presence alone said "serious performance car".

love the chrome wheels, and the plexiglass window in the hood that you can see the plastic engine cover through!

I know I'm being a hater....car is amazing..just a BIT "cheap"...if that makes sense. :-D

The Vette has RPM flapper valves in the tailpipes so it can be very quiet plus at highway speeds it was probably very near idle in sixth gear - @1200 RPM.

The Vette Forum has said that some have bought at list price, this is the transition to the 2010 model time so more are coming in the fall.

I believe that plastic is the intercooler.

When I found my Elise at a Rick Hendrick Cadillac/Hummer dealership late in 08, ZR-1 #13 was parked right behind my car. I talked the salesman into removing the uber-plush cover and let me snap a few pictures. No test drive though. It's an impressive machine.

The color of the two vehicles was nearly the same shade, and they looked absolutely gorgeous next to each other.

Are you being facetious?

I think the chrome wheels are ghetto (I dislike chrome wheels on any car for that matter). I also think the window (it's clear plastic over the intercooler) in the hood is lame because the intercooler is not all that interesting to look at, it's just a box. If there was some sort of cool intake runners or something to look at, the window would be cool.

I've driven a ZR1, it's quite good, sounds amazing and is blazingly fast, but would still rather have an R8 at that price point, it's a much nicer car all around.

Yes, but then you've mailed another $130K out of the country and further damaged our troubled economy.

I spent about an hour looking at the ZR1 at Criswell's while waiting on something else Lotus-related...

Overall I thought:

Cheap looking chrome rims
Body fit (gaps/alignment) was terrible
Overall it looked like a redneck had souped up a base C6 with crap from Ebay

I'm sure it's a beast of a car performance-wise... but I think it looks worse than a Z06.

I think the sticker was around 105k?

You can get silver or competition grey painted rims as well as chrome.

You could put fun pictures in your hood window and change them as it suits you, for example an Electrolux logo.

What a great aftermarket idea! Sell different pics so one week you can make it looks like a Ferrari V12, the next week a turbine, a couple of mice on a treadmill ........

MSRP on them is around $118K loaded. ADM is running around $30K depending on where your looking.

Why the hell should someone settle for an inferior product simply because it was "made at home"? We vote with our purchases - meaning if everyone buys vette's but actually want cars like the R8, Chevy thinks they're meeting the needs/wants of the consumer market - that everyone just LOVES their new vette!

So they continue to produce cars very similar to the vette rather than looking at market data (as their sales drop) and realizing they're losing sales to the R8 - which would give them clues to design cars more like the R8.

Furthermore, some of the money from an R8 sale still goes to this economy. The sales tax goes to our government, part of the purchase price goes to the dealership (staffed by our citizens), paying for American salaries, etc.

Cut the dogmatic, traditionalist flag-waving - it reeks of ignorance.

And how well has that worked for GM and Chrysler over the last couple decades?

Only seen one - gave the thumbs up on the highway. I like them but as mentioned, the chrome wheels (which seems to be ordered for most zr1s), and see through hood, come off a little cheap
