Having recently test driven an S2000 (UK model), I found it quite boring. VTEC is great but I don't fancy driving round at 6500rpm everywhere I go. Before that magic mark it's as dull as dishwater.

S2000 is for posers, Elise is for drivers.

Wow... that's harsh isn't it. I came to lotustalk expecting a community full of car enthusiasts but not brand whores like many other forums end up like (e.g. rx-8, most domestic ones, evo, etc.) who can appreciate different kinds of cars. I never thought Lotus owners would look down on an S2000 in such a way. We have quite a few people who moved onto Lotus and had no regret but would never say S2000 is for posers .

Agreed - I think you will find your expectations of this site are spot on, but there's always that exception that proves the rule..... S2000s are very good cars - just not as focused as the Elise.

I think if you considered the GT-R, and only didn't get it because of markup, the exige is not for you. The GT-R is at the exact opposite end of the sports car spectrum!

It's a comparison based on opinion, 'each to their own' and everything. I LOVED the S2000 before I drove it, it looks better than the Elise (IMO), it is more comfortable than the Elise (IMO), and is a better day-to-day car than the Elise (IMO), but for what I want it doesn't come close to the Elise. I don't think (IMO) that you can consider an S2000 a track worthy car. It's a RWD road car, a mid-range roadster for people who like the power at the back but don't like to sacrifice little luxuries like air-con and power steering (IMO). As I said, the reason I didn't opt for the Honda is because you have to thrash the nuts off it to bring a smile to your face, the Lotus does that by default. Give me an S2000 with the power band and road handling of an Elise and I would buy one.

+1. I have a Nissan Titan. That's closer to a GTR than my Exige is.

Power band of an Elise??? No car deserves that....

BMWCCA doesn't allow S2000 without a proper roll bar. To me, this was a deal breaker. The Elise is a much more serious sports car. The Exige takes it a notch higher.

The S2000 is not soft. It's a serious car that does everything right. The Elise just happen to do everything (that matters to me) better.

So true.

I'd say most of the posters here are usually respectful of the japanese brands - especially considering that many have upgraded from S2000's, Miata's and MR2's. They're not as pure and raw on the track an Elise/Exige. but they do make way better daily drivers!

I sort of though of the S2000 as the sensible wife. Good looking, easy to get in and out of. Seats are comfortable for many hours more that the Lotus. Heater and A/C work like you expect. Excluding weather, you never see discussions on if it can make a daily driver.

I sort of think of the Lotus as a trophy wife. A lot of fun, great looks, but at a price. You see sticky forums on can it be a daily driver.

Buy the one that excites you every time you see the keys.
I agree with most of what you said, but I own and track both and the Lotus is much faster around a track. I've compared data with the S2000 stock and the NA Elise on heat-cycled A048s, and they had similar cornering speeds with the Lotus being much stronger on the straights. Hard to chalk that up to driver skill (esp. since I was driving both).

Hummm... My butt dyno said just the opposite. Guess it's time to get it re-calibrated! Both cars make/made me giggle, I just fell in love hard for the turn in of the Lotus.

I thought GTR was butt ugly from the picture, but after I saw one on the road, I quickly changed my mind. GTR LOOKS FANTASTIC!

Excuse myself if I sounded like judging. Waynerrr thanks for clarifying. It was the poser sentence that got me. I've been lurking around on this forum for a quite a while and read so many threads already and so far I'm really liking it here. I should stop because the urge of wanting one grows stronger day by day. Like others said, Lotus is even more focused than S2000. Hopefully sometime in future I can upgrade to a Lotus from S2000 .

I to am thinking of buying a Lotus. I will try to put this another way and hope it helps with your decision.
Currently I'm driving this. There is absolutly no way I would trade this for the honda.
On the other hand, I would trade for a Lotus in a heartbeat.

If I were to buy a vette, it has to be C6 , even if it's a choice between C5 Z06. Good luck to both of us

I own both a s2000 & 06 Exige. The s2000 has double the power but I smile sooo much more when driving the Lotus. The s2000 feels disconnected from the road and does not provide the feedback and rawness of the Lotus.

I hate to call BS here since I'm the new guy and all, however.
The s2000 does not have double the power of an Elise OR an Exige, unless of course it's heavily modified.
Seemingly yours is. 378 whp is nothing to sneeze at in such a car.
I'll bet it takes off like a rocket.

The horsepower rating of the Exige and the s2000 are comparable with the edge in power to weight going to the Exige by a large margin.
Keep in mind though that you can also modify the Lotus to a lesser degree and have a car that will keep up with your s2000.
