Exclamation Scary Sightings ***Warning*** Not For The Faint Hearted

For some reason, I've been seeing a lot of the most revolutionary car in the history of the world.

The Aztek.

I'm not sure how to feel about it. Mostly, I feel nauseous.

Rather than making a bunch of miscellaneous threads, I thought to consolidate all the Aztek sightings into one very scary thread.

This is the first one I saw when I was leaving the bank the other day.

As if there was some kind of Aztek god following me, another one was parked next to me when I left the Safeway today...

Ya know what I saw 4 the other day in the span of 2 hours, each a different hideous color, each as disgraceful as the one before.

Aw, c'mon Joe,

Your Elise is a beaut. You really don't need to go out of your way to park next to the most hideous thing in automotive history just to make your car look pretty.

LOL - Mike!

Yeah, well, I saw it when I came out of the Safeway parked right next to me. It's like I'm an Aztek magnet? So I moved spots and took some photos for you, the loving Lotus Talk group.

This Aztek was snazzy. It had painted lower extremities, fancy rims, and a hell of an orange peel effect on the painted plastic parts.

I'm not going out of my way to find these things... they're just floating my way.

SDD should make a "My Other Car is an Aztek" bumper sticker, which someone should surreptitiously place on the1sen's car...

Interestingly, w/ a 3.4L V8 and a curb weight of approximately 4k lbs, it is almost exactly 2x a Lotus. Maybe Lotus is just buying Azteks in bulk and cutting them in half?

This is the man responsible! Wayne K Cherry

"Cherry returned to GM's US Chevrolet operations in 1991, though his work in Europe continued in parallel. His designs at this time included models for Chevrolet, Geo, Saturn and others. In 1992 Cherry became vice president of design for GM worldwide, the fifth head of design in GM's history. His responsibility covered all of GM's North American brands - Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chevrolet Truck, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac and Saturn. His work in Europe clearly influenced new GM designs, which started to become much more "European" in flavour than earlier US-designed vehicles. Bold designs such as the Pontiac Solstice, Cadillac Sixteen and so forth were all produced under Cherry's directorship. Also the new Cadillac vision, the H2 Hummer, the Chevy SSR, as well as over 100 concept vehicles which were developed.

Cherry received possibly the worst reviews of his career when the Pontiac Aztek was introduced in 2001. Cherry retired in 2004.
"

"The Aztek was heavily criticized on its exterior styling, with TIME Magazine in 2007 calling the Aztek one of the worst cars of all time[1], and a poll in The Daily Telegraph in August 2008 placing the Aztek at number one of "The 100 ugliest cars" of all time.[2]"

You all heard it here first... I'm the first to say it and mean it... The Azteks are coming. And their owners are not happy. I'm sure that after years of ridicule, and snide remarks that they've got a hit list a mile long each! Sure their owners are a danger to us... and I wasn't going to mention anything. But now, I feel it is my responsibility since you pointed it out ...m...

I don't mean to get all spiritual, but I believe the spirits of all the Native South Americans are completely pissed off and are rising from their graves after realizing that their Tribal name of valor, passion, and greatness has been besmirched in such a blatant manner by Pontiac.

All I can say is that nothing will prepare us for the inevitable attack of the real Aztecs. It's just another thing we can blame on GM.

I can understand GM thinking that the Aztec was a car that consumers would buy... their judgment isn't always spot-on... but what I can't understand, is what kind of person actually purchases an Aztec? Imagine someone walking on to the lot, seeing one, and falling in love... "I just *must* have that car!" Who *is* that person? It has the looks that only (its) mother could love...

P.S. Watch out... they appear to be coming gathering!

Wait, they actually have enthusiast gatherings???? WHAT THE HELL do they talk about?????

I understand Mini Cooper conclaves ("ooh, aren't we such avante garde suburbanites"), Corvette convocations ("Let's compare mustaches"), Camaro/Firebird conventions ("Yo, check out my gold chains!"), Harley-Davidson rallies ("Check out my old ladies saggy boobs!"), Jaguar concourses ("I'm sorry sir, but that clevis pin is supposed to be silver cadmium, not black oxide - kindly leave!"), Morgan/MG/Austin-Healey/Triumph get-togethers ("I'll gladly trade you a Whitworth fiddly-widget for a British Standard bailing wire hammer"), and, of course Lotus lovefests ("If I shave 6 grams of rotational mass by installing a carbon fiber window regulator, will it improve my lap times with chicks?")

For the love of Chrysler what do Aztec owners talk about??? Hummels? Wal-Mart discounts? Z-Brick siding for the mobile home? The upcoming Public Storage managers Christmas Party? Or do they keep it just about cars? ("Wished I never sold that '83 Olds Cutlass Salon - I really miss our AMC Eagle too").

Somebody please explain - my head hurts.
