Shiny carbon for the grocery car (GR STi)

Got some carbon from Seibon for my 2008 STi - nice packing, no flaws in weave or paint -it's so easy to spend money on this car it's relatively inexpensive compared to the Lotus. Hood saves 27 pounds off the front of the car from stock hood The total for both pieces is still less than the single carbon rollbar cover I just got from TWRD lol, though to be fair the quality of the stuff Jacob brings in is pretty awesome and in low volume.

I'm gonna take off all the silver mesh, will post pics when it's on

I'm american-korean and by default I eat rice a lot.

Ok seriously of course I'm gonna leave the carbon bare, my car is very dark grey, looks black at night so it won't look like a panda bear like when the white cars have black parts all over it. If the weave were particularly bad I would paint it, but it's very nice.

Also, I (as well as tons of people here) have bare carbon all over my Lotus on the outside and on the inside. The new 260 Exige has bare carbon all over the inside, I've got a wing, side sills, splitter, side scoops, top, rollbar cover all in exposed carbon. Ricey? I don't understand...it's ok on a Lotus, not ok on a japanese car?

It's different when it is accent parts vs whole body panels. CF hoods on car to me look like the person got into an accident and couldn't afford to finish the job by painting it

Yo Morgan!

Yeah, I would generally agree with the aesthetics of non-color matching body panels when large in surface area. Hence it makes it easy that my car is almost shiny black and the carbon bits that are on it now are barely noticeable. I actually find this to be fascinating...peoples' subjective calls on when carbon is ok and when it's not. For instance, most of us would move into the functionality camp, i.e. are the parts actually lighter? Or the go vs show camp, i.e. is the car actually track worthy or at least have upgraded internals to justify to showy nature of the parts? It gets heady when let's say your Lotus has lighter carbon parts on the outside, but saves no material weight on the inside and you have side sills and center console galore. Does the functionality of the car give you some "carbon credit" to spend on parts that just look cool? Of course!

Here I've posted 3 vehicles with carbon hoods, good examples I would say. And for every good example, I can imagine 1,000 bad examples as well. That all being said I stand by my exposed carbon is awesome on cars stance, especially when the car is dark and the panels integrate more. When splattered on as body parts on say a Civic or...your run of the mill Japanese econobox turned street racer sure, my functionality alarms go off. But you know...at the end of the day an asian car is an asian car why hide from the rice labels lol.

I'm also having a hard time finding a good bumper...the stock one won't allow we to put the oil cooler and heat exchangers I am planning on the car. The ones I have found are, I would admit in all honesty too much and require removal of the bumper beam which I don't want to do -

That blue Sti looks really sharp with that carbon hood. The white 1 series with the carbon hood looks like caca.

I didn't say anything about carbon pieces on a Lotus. I like the monochrome look and prefer the Exiges with the body colored wings, scoops, etc.

Is there a JDM bumper beam available from STi Japan? I swapped out the bumper beam on my 04 to the JDM beam and saved what seemed to be 25 lbs off the front end.

Picking up a 05 WRB this weekend. It's been too long without a Subie for me. Seibon does some nice work, although the silver mesh would stand out a lot less if it were black. Looks good either painted or not.

haha...come you know I love your cars - I'm talking about the cars like the BMW 1 I posted up there. It's nice...just looks like a panda bear. As mentioned before, bits here and there black are awesome -

Here's a photo of my car at the SCC track day. Kaz's STi is a similar color. Most probably didn't even notice the roof and rollbar cover till they came closer to the car.

Jacob, the carbon roof and roll bar cover give the car the same look as the S1 cars that had the soft top extending that far back, i actually really like it.

can't wait to see the install pics Kaz, should look awesome on the dark grey.

I agree to an extent. For some cars if you only make one piece CF it can look as if the car is unfinished. But if well thought out CF can make make a car spectacular. But I'm a little bias.

Jacob what wheels are those? The Konigs for my Spyder look just like that

Kaz: Post pics ASAP I'm partial to painting carbon and leaving a strip exposed (kind of like a reverse racing stripe) just to show a little bling
