GT40 power/wt ratio is WOW, but likely too fast for me.

I buy only 2 seaters w/removable tops, personal quirk.

Moto's head seems a bit small.

Congrats, Mike, it's a beauty!
thanks gil!
to answer a few questions from your PM....
yes, it has A/C and it works decent. maybe a notch above the elise.
the engine is a small block 427 with fuel injection.
its a freaking blast to drive. nothing like it.

the real one or the replica?

the replicas, and ill focus this on superformance because thats what im most familiar with, are not "true" 1960s tech.

the suspension is a bit more modern. fuel injection, engine choices, and various other things can factor in.
many folks buy a superformance and simply drop a fully finished roush engine in there. thats great, its a great engine but you can get better.
the point is that there can be a lot of variables.
what is a "stock" replica gt40?

that said, i have zero doubt a new ford gt would NOT walk away from me. i have abt the same HP at the wheels as he does (more on that forthcoming) and the superformance is abt 1000 pounds lighter.
i believe the SPF has a shorter wheelbase and sits lower.
on the flipside, the newer car stops better. SPF gt40s come equipped with wilwood brakes. theyre good, but not as good. i suppose its simple enough to get something better but as it stands it is what it is.
another point is the new car has a 6 speed, i have a 5. that could help or hinder depending on other factors.

all things considered, i believe the new car would win because of the brakes, but i think it would be interesting to see a new one run against a well sorted gt40 replica.

It just appears that way because working out has made me so massive.

could the superformance GT's be the most brutal, hard core performance, street legal production car's available right now? if not, what is?????

Edit- let's say regular fully enclosed cars only (not atom). Convert is cool as long as you can put a top up.

I've driven RacyTracy's modified 600hp Turbo Porsche - brutally fast. I rode as a passenger in Ronnie Slaughter's Rossion for several rounds of an autocross. Even though, he was holding back because the car was brand new, it more than qualifies as brutally fast.

I test drove a Ford GT today, modified with upgraded supercharger, headers, exhaust, and ECU putting out more than 650hp - very fast and powerful. However, Mike's GT40 felt much more raw and powerful.

All of these cars satisfy the desire to have something ridiculously fast. Style is subjective. However, one attribute in particular really set Mike's car apart for me...the sound.

The Porsche has a unique sound. The Rossion sounds very good. The Ford GT is way too quiet, given the power output. Mike's car is very loud without being obnoxious, but it is meaty as hell. It screams, "I'm driving a real race car".

All of my friends with interesting cars come from this forum. And yes, I was test driving the Ford GT because I am interested. It would be a nice muscle car compliment to the go kart feeling of the Elise.

i didnt see this till now.
interesting points. id be interested in hearing more detail as the ford gt is another of my all time favs. a supercar without an exotic engine that is grossly overengineered.

ps......i TOLD you a ford gt wouldnt walk away from my car. and that one was modified?

The Ford GT has creature comforts whereas the GT40 is more spartan than even the Elise/Exige. The biggest difference between the two was the power delivery. The Ford GT has an incredibly silky smooth tranny that is nearly effortless to shift. And although it roars away when you tromp on the throttle, it felt controllable. The GT40, on the other hand, comes on like a fury that at any moment might overcome you.

This deal sounds like "heads I win, tails you lose".

Besides, we're counting on you to get the Audi R8 to add to the collection of supercars among us.

I keep reading the ads every day.....there always used to be around 36-40 R8's listed at cars.com.....now it's up around 60. I'm hoping the prices on the V-8's drop as more V-10's hit the streets. So far that's not really happening. Plus, even as the prices drop slightly, so does the price of my car.

The other catch 22 is that many of us would like a bit more security about the economy and our wages before we buy a new car. However, it is the down economy that is driving so many of the good deals.
