YSR50

I've always wanted one ever since I was a kid...anyone here have one/used to have one? I used to ride in college but only for one year, and I still wanted to have one of these tiny bikes. Do people race these ever? I see lots of pics on teamcalamari.com but never seen small bike tracks in SoCal

DUDE!!! I LOVE THOSE THINGS!!!!

My best friend had a pair when we were in High School, we would tear around town all the time, down sidewalks, through people's yards. We were like pirate ninjas on suicide missions!!! People can't possibly appreciate how small these things are by that picture you posted. This bike fits anywhere.

I would love to have one but I think I am to big now. I weighed 130 in High School... I'm 220 now and I have no fat to lose. (see avatar)

I freakin loved that thing.

Man, my neighbor had one of those mini bikes when we were teens. I used to love screaming down the street on that thing!

YSR50 was the first bike I ever rode and loved it!

You may want to look into Aprilia RS50's or even a new Ninja 250... YSR50's are EXPEN$IVE!

New (for '08) Ninja 250 - not quite as small as a YSR, but definitely not a full-sized bike.

When I was 15, I would go to the local Honda dealer to get parts for my Aero 50 moped and dream of the YSR. I think I took a seat on it every single time I was there.

ysr50's are awesome. I had one in college... but it led to many other bikes... it gives you a taste of what riding is like, but leaves you wanting much more. It's a TINY bike. It fit in the back seat of my friend's ford crown victoria....

My first street bike was a ysr50 lol. Bought somewhere around 5 years ago. Just sold it a year ago. I had the first year and it looked just like the picture you posted. I took it to the track once, but it was ALOT of work! And in the dead of summer. The most popular track in so cal is grange. Grange Race Track Southern California race track for Kart and Supermoto Racing I know Buttonwillow also has a kart track too but I've only been on grange. This is the race group I thought about joining but decided I didn't need another hobby. CMRRA I bought the bike for about $2k and sold it for $2k. I see them pop up for sale all the time. Mine was all original which is a bit rare and can be expensive.

There's a 300lb or so "big fella" in town here (Old Saybrook CT) that rides one of these. It's amazing, must have some serious torque, though he dog paddles a bit at stop signs! I will definitely get him on the camera phone this spring.

ok great I'm not the only nut then... was about to get a Ruckus and start modding away - which is pretty cool, but I've always wanted a YSR50 just didn't know what to do with it. Can't really ride it in LA anywhere, but yeah I guess kart tracks would be pretty fun

I have one in my garage I haven't riden \ started it in 10 years. I am sure it needs some work but was running at one point. I bought it as a novelty and I think it has less than 1000 miles on it. I just cant seem to bring myself to sell it. I too always wanted one as a kid. I see kids racing them at local CRMA races here. Don't think I have seen one on the road in years!

Was also my first bike back in college. what fun times knee dragging around campus in the middle of the night. Just bought an all original 2900 mi YSR last month for my wife to learn to ride. They are a blast. Add a pipe, filter, jets & a sprocket and you'll have even more fun.

We're talking about YSR50's here not NSR50's.... they're perfectly street legal in most states (turn signals, brake light, mirrors, headlamp).

Ruckus' while the (relatively) new "geek chique", are still scooters.

And like fat chicks, I'm sure they're fun to ride when no one's watching, but you really don't want to spend all that money modding a scooter, when you can get an actual bike.

(Ruckus' aren't cheap!)

this isn't quite the same thing but it is half the size of a real bike and was street legal. I picked it up for $800. The bike in the picture you have is a lot nicer and probably 10x more reliable.

haha...yeah, I just have a hard time thinking about navigating a 50cc in LA, get run over by monster trucks and the like - my old bike was a 750 so, YSR might not have the torque I am used to lol

Well then, you know what you're missing (on two wheels). If you want a smallish bike go for a new or new leftover Ninja 500..... ~$3.5K IIRC. I'm tempted to get one as a commuter bike.... they will do over 100MPH (or so I'm told ).

An acquaintance of mine has two of them, one lightly used, one brand new. They are sweet little bikes.
