Arqray SingleTip+ChallengeGrill+SurroundInterest

Guys,

Looks like I'm going to go with the Challenge Grill for the Arqray, but the downside is you have to cut out a raw hole for the Exhaust tip.

I wasn't wild about this idea so I designed an aluminum surround that will complete the hole and look stock. This will give you room for error when cutting the hole and should look very clean.

The dimensions are as follows...

Arqray exhaust tip diameter 3.141"

Inside diameter of surround 3.5"
Outside diameter of surround 4.2"

The thickness of the part that you will see is .05" and the overall thickness of the part is .315".

The part will be powder coated flat black.

Approximate Cost if 1 person is interested plus shipping

= $60.00

Two Lotus owners $50.00

5 Lotus owners $35.00

I have CAD blueprints that can be emailed if someone wants to see them.

Let me know what you think.

Here is a picture of another members Challenge Grill...

In other words there would be a small lip around this hole.

By the way - whoever did this cut out did a great job.

So the Challenge Grill is finally a production product? I don't see it on the Sector111 site anymore.

Are there any close up shots of the grill? I'd like to know how much air flow there is with it. Would there be any heat problems with it if the wrap around heat shield is removed?

That's the most close up shot I have. It looks to me like it allows as much airflow as the stock grill - perhaps more because the license plate area is smaller.

Not sure how hard these are to get and if Sector 111 can get them or not. You would have to call them.

You can still get the Challenge grill at Symbolic Motor Cars, talk to Anthony, 858-350-1493. They have 2 left. Sector111 was buying them from Symbolic, but when the price shot up, it just made more sense for people to buy them direct.

What material is the grill made from?

Supposedly, aluminum. I haven't cut into it yet, but that's what I was told by Anthony at symbolic.

I ordered mine today and should have it this week.

I think it's aluminum and the black won't scratch off.

It's modeled after the grills on Ferrari's.

Anthony mentioned they only have one left.

Apparently Anthony felt the Lotus grill was lame and needed the upgrade and these are custom made by symbolic.

He said they may do another run and with my luck, they'll make them better.

I like the look of your Exige just the way it is - no panels.

just figure out something for that heat wrap and it would be pefect in my opinion.

the challenge style grill looks like a woman's funeral veil to me.

Appreciate the advice. We'll see. I can always take it off.

Nothing wrong with that. It means the Elise is lurking to kill some hot shot in his 911 taking it to the grave..

(EDIT) Has anyone done a Arqray single with the stock grill? Just cutting a hole for the pipe to exit? That's what I am thinking of doing. I don't prefer the eliminator look. It's great for the Titanium but I am only going Stainless so I want to hide it and just hear it..

I once thought of cutting the stock grill to accommodate the single tip, but with the holes in the grill, it would be impossible to get a clean cut. But.......with Jason's tip surround, it may be possible.

Jason, do you have a surround yet that I can check out?

I thought of that and was just going to take some of that door ding moulding and route it around the cut/hole. Just wondering if the heat will melt it.

I backed off on the surround somewhat.

I hope to cut the hole and install the challenge grill this weekend. Ron - I might need some help.

After it's installed I will make the decision if it's really necessary to go through the trouble to have the surround machined.

Stay tunned.

This isn't an Arqray single-tip, but illustrates an installation with the hole cut in the stock rear panel. The edges of the cutout were covered with some sort of material that looked like the door ding stuff mentioned above. You can see it best on the right exhaust cutout.

It's just a matter of how much you would trust a plastic door trim being in close proximity to a hot exhaust pipe. I wouldn't like the looks of melted plastic, but some may not mind.

The Challenge Grill is pretty cool. You still get a peek at the exhaust since the perforations allow some view into the rear. The CO car above was taken in my garage. Symbolic is selling them direct and it offers a more refined look than our more aggressive Rear Panel Eliminator.

I like the open look, but I think it seems a little naked. The Challenge grill will neaten the rear up.

The Challenge grill is pretty transparent so the guts will still show quite nice.

However, I'm not 100% sold and I do like the open look. If I'm not happy, I can take it off.

If I proceed with the surrounds, they would look much better than the rubber. I have no idea if they would work on the duel tip. I wish I could post a picture of the CAD drawing, but I don't know how.
