Comprehensive Larini 8 Inch vs Stock Exhaust Comparison (William Thomas Roadsters)
The objective of this post is to document both the physical and acoustic difference between the Lotus Elise SC stock exhaust and the Larini 8 Inch (diffuser exit).
I would like to thank Bill Thomas (of William Thomas Roadsters near Frenchtown, NJ) for facilitating this exhaust comparison while implementing the exhaust replacement! Last edited by jpkeyzer; 06-18-2010 at 05:56 AM. |

Comprehensive indeed! Thank you for sharing your in-depth comparison. Multimedia yummyness
![]() It's amazing the stock exhaust weighs that much. Changing it out is easy weight loss.

+1 thanks. Finally someone who took the time to share some good comprehensive comparison. Wish i had this info on the larini SC sport. Great footage and pictures showing all angles to really get a good understanding of the dirrerences.
I always wonder why the seller of these products don't capture this kind of data and post on there sites. I think most buyers would be able to make a better purchase and not end up with somethign they really didn't want. Maybe give a free or sell a muffler to a consumer at cost with the caviate of getting comparison footage that can be used on there website. I woudl definitly do it |

Thank you for the compliment - when I was looking to replace the stock exhaust, I remember wishing that someone had documented the physical and acoustic difference between these exhausts and so decided to do it myself once I had committed to the Larini 8 inch with diffuser exit!

Great post thanks. I just installed the 8" yesterday at Sector111 and love it. It is plenty loud, but not obnoxious. I just adds the appropriate pops and burbles on gear shifts and backing off the throttle and when you put your foot in it, it sounds about as good as one can get out of a 4 cyl engine--much better than stock, but no where near the droning unpleasant stage 2 that I had on my original 05 Lotus.

Its hard to tell, are you at WOT in those shots? I'd love to see some good db readings...

Great post... I like the stock exhaust better though. Even though it's louder, the new exhaust makes the car sound too much like a Japanese sports compact.
I'd like to hear the exhaust note on ignition. I'm sure it sounds pretty good from inside though... Last edited by squidward; 06-26-2010 at 05:48 AM. |
