DOES THIS EXIST..
before i start.. i have tried searching the web then i remembered my old muckers here in this forum namely Jim V and such like. Who made me the first2ubular Ultra......hence maybe a quicker way on yes / no / or possibly!
Also please dont take the piZZ at the concept or drawings as i am a specialist in a field far removed from metal, engines and mechanics. Previously (although with the rear panel elimanted it made it relatively easy) it was a pain to swap between the exhaust systems dependant on what mood i was in - loud, quite or intermediate on the exigeS so the question being: does the following concept exist (drawing below) where by you can automatically swap (in the cockpit) between a through pipe (or other loud silenced) to a fully silenced box. Where by a disk can shut or open with a cable type of system and thus alter the path dependant upon where you want the gas flow to exit. either on or off type of situation and not nessesarily variable I am currently specing the build on a hand built road car for the UK where it will ultimately need to be fitted with the fully silenced system for SVA but would want it as such if i wanted this fitting later it would be a straight swap. There is loads of room on installation if this is possible. anybody with any views on this or how this goal could be achieved or if they could make it The engine is a LS7 v8 505bhp in standard form and will be running CATS ![]() ![]() |

...such as a cutout?
How it works: DMH Electric Cutouts are designed to better your cars performance and feel. The cutout works by welding into your stock or modified exhaust. They can be placed anywhere after the headers. To open the cutout you press a switch, which opens cutout, releasing your exhaust. This enables you to bypass your muffler, increasing horsepower Welcome to DMH Performance! |

I have something very similar on my boat. Chaparral calls it a "Quick or Quiet" exhaust. Flip a switch and exhaust goes out one pipe or another, loud or quiet depending on what you want at the time.

I'd be wary of installing a cut-out on the Lotus. The ECU is so finicky, I think it would have trouble going back and forth like that. I bet you'd get CELs and poorer performance in the long run.
Cut outs are for 60's and 70's muscle cars. I've seen some good cut out kits on 4th-gen F-bodies, and newer trucks, etc that work well. But even then it starts to get hairy because of the sensors feeding the ECU a whole different stream of data when the cut out is on vs off.

More than a few modern sports cars have a switched or automatic switch that opens a valve to allow straight-through exhaust.

yes mate, its the XFORCE VAREX muffler. I have the 3" version on my exige S- magic- push the remote- quieter than stock, push remote again... straight through and over 102db with my 200 cell metal cat (have full 3" mandrel pipes).
XForce - Performance Exhaust Systems watch the VE commodore clip for your application (i actually used the same muffler- just 1 instead of the two used on the v8) and yes, I previously had a 111s, and it had something similar (but waaaaay to baffled) from the factory. I have put a few thousand kilometers on the VAREX exhaust, and have no CEL/MIL light problems; in fact I think it actually stops the "self-learning" from cutting out the advantages of the straight through exhaust which many have commented on.. best of all the muffler only costs less than USD 400 (actually about AUD 400). I actually got mine on sale and had it fitted for $450... its very well made stainless steel- I really can't believe the mark up on the other "so called" performance exhausts such as quicksilver, larini etc.. (and I actually previous spent 3x as much on a well known muffler, but got sick of the constant drone). The VAREX was cheap and I thought I would give it a go.. could not be happier! I am working in London at the moment and the car is back in Sydney ![]() Last edited by Sydney111s : 07-03-2008 at 03:23 PM. Reason: added muffler details |

RR silver ghost had this exhaust feature on the 1927 model. If I recal correctly it was a label on it stating "not for use in GB"
All mechanical obviously. That RR also had anti lock brakes (vacuum operated some how) Cool car

yes exactly... but with enhancements in modern bodywork styling (subjective) and
Alluminium Monoque Vs spaceframe 6pots all around standard vs 4pots standard apart from that equal / better hopefully in all areas including speed / performance / handling price comparison is dependant on where in the world you live. compliance again is dependant as this is only supplied as factory built and not as per ultima also in kity form. ![]() |

well craig, if I was you, I'd get the varex muffler as used on the VE commodore (they use the 6.0L LS-2 in these now) so it should work for your needs. Highly recommend the solution for SVA purposes as you will have fully functioning, quiet/stock muffler, then press the button, and nice and racy as per the u-tube video..
