Help: Need to borrow your exhaust! Ohio

Does anyone have a spare exhaust in central Ohio laying around that I could borrow? I am trying to see if my exhaust guts are the culprit to my problem.

I have had the strangest rattle going on. I have had the undertray and diffuser off at least 6 times now. While moving there is a rattle at 28 to 3400. It almost sounds like a loose clamp ratlting around a pipe. If I stop and get out of the car and listen for it, the rattle goes away. I therefore cant pinpoint the source.I have tightened all of the heat shielding.

Today I took off the stage II janspeed exhaust and inspected it I couldnt see or hear anything loose. Refitted and played around with the heatshielding some more.Test drove it with diffuser and undertray off. No luck.

I think there is something going on within the canister itself;only when its at a certain temp. I think that as soon as it cools down the problem disappears.

Any help would be appreciated!

I thought most Elises rattled in the engine bay at that RPM range. Don't ?

I think you need to replace the clamp. I believe it is *supposed* to be replaced everytime you loosen it. If you are taking it on and off it is likely not getting proper torque and the relationship with the heating (expansion) and contraction would make sense. Hope this helps.

Yes according to the service notes that is recommended. I keep thinking about that every time I look at the exhaust. Although, the clamp is tight when this problem occurs. But , you might have something there. I'll get a new clamp. It wouldn't hurt. I've tried everything else. Thanks for the tip.

A lot of early stage II's had an issue with a piece breaking it's weld and rattling inside. I think Stan had that problem and simply brought it to a muffler shop and they re-welded it for him. Other simply had the Stage 2 replaced by the dealer.

Problem resolved. Left tip was where the rattle came from. I bent it to the left and the rattle is now gone. Must be a weld issue, but its nice and quiet now. what a relief!
