How much heat shielding to take off?
Arqray SS single tip. Von Hep panel delete bracket. How much heat shielding is safe to remove and still look good?

You need to remove it ALL in order for it to look good, in my opinion!
That is what I did. At first I had left the heat shield over the elbow pipe and it looked like crap. So I got some header wrap, removed the rest of the heat shield, and wraped that pipe (bc it is so close to the clam). I have had no issues thus far with the entire heat shield removed and have read an endless amount of threads here with the same results. Removing the heat shield from the elbow pipe was very time consuming for me using tin snipes and cutting off a little at a time. Maybe some one else can chime in with an easier way. Anyways here is my final results. ![]()

Agreed. Take it all off.
I didn't have to cut anything when I took mine. Maybe you missed a bolt somewhere?

It does look very clean with all the shielding off. Don't you have heat problems inside your trunk?

No, no issues. After removing the heat shielding, you will see that there is a secondary heat shielding/insulation on the underside of the wall between the exhaust and the trunk. I would leave that in.
While I don't hang out in the trunk to see how hot it gets, the milk stays cold on the ride home.

Same here no heat problems in the trunk. Car runs a couple degrees cooler also.

+1, Looks like I have some wrapping to do, the black header wrap looks great.

Mine is also wrapped. Be advised that you should re-wrap at least once a year as the wrap disintegrates over time due to the heat.

can someone inventory all the bolts that will need to come out to get the heat shield off? does the exhaust need to be off also? I may do this.....but want to be able to return to stock

Six or seven black 8mm bolts. Need to take out the exhaust and rear panel. I was able to get the complete, un-cut shield out without removing the cat. Also want to return to stock if needed. U-tube cover requires removal of sensor or cutting.

all heat sheild bolts are under the car. top mounting bolts for the rear panel are in the trunk

BTW: I was worried about not having any heatshielding, but as others on this thread have noted, no problem.
Took the car to track day Friday with no heating problems. Coolant temp as measured by the dash indicator is about 5 degrees cooler than before removal. Makes sense I guess because there is now air flow possible through that area. Completely enclosed before.

I cut mine just above the bend on the main sheild so that the trunk was still protected. So far I have been fine. I wrapped my u joint and even with the wrap the side of the clam gets quite hot (not enough for me to be concerned) after a good drive or track day. But I am also s/c.
