Thanks for the props guys. We were honestly suprised at the results. We were hoping for 10-12. We made 18 as soon as we bolted it on!!! We will be back to the dyno this week for another round. We can then test fit the final prototype on an elise!

Well, we figured out the fueling issue tonight - it was just a clogged filter. Swapped it out and the AFRs dropped to 9.0:1 at high load. We did some street tuning to get the AFRs back under control to save some time when we go back to the dyno on Friday, and I was amazed at the throttle response. Its pretty much ITB level response speed, and the power was sufficient to break the tires loose if you went WOT at ANY speed in 1st gear. The transition to lift was seamless as well which makes the car much easier to control.
All in all we're really lookign forward to Friday - I think 200 to the tire is within reach. |

Update: Great news! We did a ton of street testing tonight and got a bunch of important data. For reference when I say Stock ECU I mean Stock Celica ECU, however I have high hopes for the Lotus ECU to behave similarly.
Stock ECU + Stock Injectors + Injen CAI with the DD Manifold and the Q45 TB works great!!! AF was totally safe and there was no sign of detonation. The car also pulled like a raped ape. I expect VERY nice double digit gains versus the stock manifold & TB. Surprisingly Power FC + Stock Injectors + Injen CAI with the DD Manifold and the Q45 TB also works great. Even though the INjen CAI is smaller, the throttle response is still greatly improved once we dropped the new VVT map on it. It does hit up into the 90s in duty cycle in 3rd gear though, so the 3" CAI will not be a good idea if you want to run the stock injectors - you will need the 440s if you move up to the 3" CAI - this is definitely the limit of the stock injectors. Unfortunately the 3" CAI and 440cc injectors do not offset eachother for the stock ECU - we kept getting misfire codes on the stock ECU and it just wasn't idling and running well. No big loss though. We were using wide body RC injectors, so its possible that a denso injector may have behaved slightly better. The power is just fantastic on the stock ECU, and the power with the PowerFC, Injen and the new VVTi map still feels amazing. I'm sure its a bit less than with the 3" CAI, but I don't think its a huge difference untill you get to the very top of the rev range. We will be back on the dyno this weekend for sure, and we will test the various configurations. We didn't try the stock throttle body tonight because when it got to be 11:30 we called it a night, but we will try it on the dynot (if it will work with the monstrous Q45 TB, it will sure as heck work with the stock one, it will probably just make slightly less power. We will also try to play with our 3" CAI design if we have a chance. So fantastic news all around - we're planning to try and get dyno time on Saturday and finish the runners and whatnot tomorrow night or Friday night. And yes - this time I will try to remember to get a sound clip |

Update:
Holy sh*t. We were HOPING for 15 HP gain on the stock ECU, but once again our little intake that could blew us away. Check it out - 30 HP gain versus stock Intake on the stock ecu and OVER 50 HP during lift transition To say this surpassed our expectations doesn't even come close. The other good news is we were able to pretty much finish our testing - we would have liked to do some more but on pull 180 David's final drive came apart and blew a hole in the transmission case. Sucky sucky. We had some issues with our adapter for the stock TB as well (bug vacuum leak - we need to remake it), but considering that the stock ECU seems to like the Q45 TB just fine and it made 30 friggin HP, getting back to the dyno to post stock TB numbers isn't high on our list. We'll do it eventually and I'm sure they will be fine, but seriously, you would be insane not to spend the extra $50 - $100 to get the Q45 TB and get the full benefit as tested. We made it to 197 HP with the power FC this time. As mentioned, I will NOT be posting further dynos with the power FC as I do not intend to disclose where we are setting the torque peak until the production peice is on sale. So lets pretend that we still ONLY made 194 like last time with a motor that guzzles oil, is weak as hell, and a transmission thats busy failing ![]() With no further ado - here is the dyno results. Same day, same dyno. Car was never unblolted, ECU was reset prior to the runs for both and we did 3 runs for both and picked the best on the 3 for both. Mods are an Injen CAI (used on both pulls - we did NOT use a 3" CAI), stock header ported by me, decat and a bagnaflow muffler and a fidanza flywheel. Other features include a weak engine thats going through oil at an alarming rate and has a huge amount of blow by and a transmission that was in the process of failing the final drive. ![]() and here are the SAE numbers and run info since I know Jlitman is going to ask for them if I don't post them: ![]() Also as promised I took some video clips for sound purposes and here they are: Stock intake manifold with Injen CAI: DD Performance Research Prototype Manifold making a dyno pull: DD Performance Research intake manifold blipping throttle - notice how damn fast this thing responds and revs - it sounds like a friggin bike: So there you have it. I'm pretty sure I can safely say that if you guy EVERY other bolt on part you can get and run them ALL with the stock ECU you won't even make a combined 30 HP gain. Oh - and it sounds cool as hell. |
