Question K&N or Green filter?

I want to get a new airfilter for my 2006 Elise, what seems to be better?

I do not want any CEL issues to result from the new air filter...

I am leaning towards the green filter...

Does anyone have a part number?

Where is the best place to buy?

thanks!

I ordered my Green Filter from AutoAnything.com. Around $48 total; free shipping. Should be installed along with my velocity funnel this afternoon.

So has this filter changed? There were people having issues getting it to fit. Was that resolved?

$10.48 and if filters better than the oiled, reusable filters.

That's cause they want the big bucks so they don't bother listing the normal paper filters.

The filter (and air box) used in the Elise is the same as used in the Toyota Matrix. Use a filter for that car and you will get the right one.

So what is the final word?

Is the green filter or the purolator shown below the prefereed set-up if you are going to do the snorkel delete?

I want the sound and good filtering performance. Cost is secondary, but convenience...

Get the green...the material is woven unlike the K&N which tends to get tiny holes in it over time.

Its also a perfect fit and no CEL.

Plus I have one for sale if you want it, its cleaned and in perfect condition...I have a bottle of cleaning solution and a bottle of oil that goes with it. Since I have the VF kit I no longer need it.

PM me if you're interested.

Is there difference in the sound or filtering capability between the green filter and the purolator?

The purolator is available locally, the green filter I will have to order.

I am de-snorked, and there was a noticable difference in sound when I went from stock (like purolator), to the green filter.

I am desnorkelled, with a velocity bell and the K&N. There is a noticable intake sound difference as compared to stock. I even hear the "puff" intakes during throttle-blips between shifts!

Thank you for the replies.

Where did you find the "velocity bell"?

There's a quick description in THIS THREAD. Post #22 shows one person's installed picture.

There's also more information and discussion on it, including I think within the thread somewhere too, suggestions for places to buy this (really SIMPLE mod) HERE.

I think I found and purchased mine, somewhere on Amazon. I don't recall exactly, at the moment. The velocity funnel is a "Spectre" part, usually available at any auto-zone, if you have one of those near you. Again - I think I got mine cheaper (I'm a tight-wad) and no tax or shipping (when combined with something else to get my order over $50) from Amazon. The Velocity Funnel is Spectre part #8788, and the rubber coupler is Spectre part #8711. Although, I did not use the rubber coupler. Instead, I went to home depot and picked up a section of 3" round flex duct tubing. A 3"x3" section of that worked PERFECTLY to mate this up to the box, and provide both flexibility and clam clearance such that I don't worry about bumps or engine movement during high-revvs causing this to smack the clam.

In combination with simply de-snorkelling, I find, at least personally - this very, very simply "mod" to make good sense. YM(and other people's opinions)MV.

Cheers,
-Grant
