New BOE Exhaust Now Available from Blackwatch Racing!
Beyond Original Equipment(BOE) Fabrication and Blackwatch Racing introduce the first true racing exhaust for the Lotus Elise and Exige (And you can live with it every day!)
Design: The dimensions were tested extensively with many different combinations of silencer diameter, core diameter, length, and packing material consistency to get great power, great sound, and kill the annoying drone present in so many exhausts including the factory and stage II systems. Construction: All 304 Stainless construction. Mandrel bent exit pipe and 100% TIG welded. 2.5" straight-through design reduces back pressure to support high power applications. These exhausts have been tested on cars with 320HP both on and off the race track! Composition and History: These systems are designed specifically for the Lotus Elise/Exige platform by BOE and Coast Fabrication working in concert. Coast Fab is the culmination of the legendary Dan Gurney race team (who coincidentally was a winning Lotus team from the 60’s). More recently, these mufflers were on the Brumos car that won Daytona 24 hour this year and the winning Sun Trust car in 2005 of the prototype cars. The only modern podium car they're not on is the Ganassi car, as they have their own exhaust. Just about everyone else uses Coast. They're THAT GOOD. You'll find pics of these mufflers glowing red hot and they'll stay that way for the whole race. The same muffler will often get used for 3, 4, or 5 races. Most track day enthusiasts don't come even close to working the exhaust that hard in years worth of use... Current exhausts on the market all use fiberglass packing and most are NOT rebuildable. Fiberglass will simply burn up and blow-out over time with the ultra short exhaust tracts of the Elise/Exige, a very short time if you track your car! You’re then left with a loud exhaust that actually robs power and isn’t rebuildable! In the “Quarter-Stick” we use 100% stainless-steel packing, which is far more heat resistant and much longer lasting than fiberglass. In the quieter “Silent Touch” version we use a stainless/fiberglass hybrid that provides much higher heat tolerance than pure fiberglass, but maintains a very light weight. Both are rebuildable. Mounting: Mounted using BOE’s proprietary hollow stainless steel mounting rod system. This rod mounts in the stock exhaust hangers. Through several trials, we've arrived at just the right amount of flex (compared to other rigid systems on the market), which allows the exhaust to move, eliminating the stress cracking that has plagued other exhausts. Additionally, there are provisions in the mounting system to reduce the chances of the exhaust “walking” to the passenger side of the vehicle—another problem many other systems are dealing with today. The system is complete with 2 stainless T-bolt clamps for the strongest connection to the factory U-bend and the attachment of the tip. A lightweight, angle cut exhaust tip is provided for both good looks and further sound attenuation. With the T-bolt clamp, not only can the angle of the tip be fine-tuned, but a different tip could be attached for different looks or directing sound away from those pesky sound stations! Rebuildable: Unlike any other Lotus exhaust on the market, The Silent Touch and Quarter-Stick are both rebuildable. After a couple of seasons of hard racing, you can undo the end cap and rebuild the exhaust with an inexpensive rebuild kit. Weight: Critical to any racer, especially the Lotus owner. These are the lightest exhausts on the market for the Lotus: Including all the clamps, mounting rod, tip and silencer, The Quarter-Stick weighs in at just over 8lbs! The silent touch only a bit over 11lbs! Sound: Now we get to the best part! These exhausts were extensively tested for great sound as well as power production. Silent Touch: Off-cam it has a deeper, richer sound than stock and about the same volume. No drone. On-cam a bit louder than stock, more aggressive, but deeper, crisper, and with no drone. Very liveable on a day-to-day basis. Customers tell us its about a loud as their old 8" exhaust, but deeper tone. Quarter-Stick(As in "quarter stick" of dynamite): No drone and moderate volume at idle. Several folks have commented it is quieter than stage 2 around town(due to lack of drone) Aggressive, but not raspy off-CAM. On-CAM description best taken from bystanders: "Sounds like a Formula 1 car!", "Crisp and not raspy", and our favorite: "Bad-Ass!!!!" Currently both exhaust are a "high exit" which require removing part of the heat shielding and either trimming or removing one of the rear side panels. We recommend the Von Hep license plate bracket that replaces the rear panel. Prices for QuarterStick and the Silent Touch are $645 and $695 respectively. Lotus Exhaust - Blackwatch Racing

The honest answer is we don't know. Alot of factors affect sound measurement, proximity to meter, humidity, reflective areas etc. The silent touch is pretty reasonable. My guess is you can make it quiet enough with a cat, thought you may need a turn down or little pup muffler at the end, just for Laguna.

I jusy saw a prototype of this muffler, and it was not able to pass the 92 dB(a) limits of Mont-tremblant with the stock collector, but with a BOE supercharge.
At Mont-treamblant, they are saying the noise limit, but they are not saying the distance from the car to measure it... witch is very important. I don't know how they are measuring it at Laguna.

Its a race exhaust. All about "go" more so than "show". We're flexible; the tip is replaceable by whatever someone wants to put on there to add more weight and look fast.

This exhaust sounds great and won't burn up after a few track events.

Can we some sound clips of the exhaust? I'm liking the description but I definitely want to get an idea of what the Silent Touch sounds like before I order.

Yeah, I put one on this past sunday.. I was told by the owner that it sounds better than his 2bular (the big quiet can) but was louder.. This was with the silent touch..
The exahsut system is very nice, adjustable as well.. I think it's much easier to install than any other exhaust out there.. And of course the quality is top knotch.. ![]() |

Yes, buy design. 1. You can adjust the angle of the dangle to fit exactly how you like. 2. If you don't like it you can put on another tip. 3. Gives us an easy way to get a through-diffuser to fit.
The plan is for the through diffuser to be basically cut flush or stick through 1/2" or so.

So I really like the exhaust overall.. (I got the quiet one)
I have a few constructive criticisms to offer though: 1. The can should be centered with the license plate.. ie- same distance on either side of the plate. 2. The clamps are not very good.. they should be changed to something better. 3. The hollow tubing that the exhaust hangs from is bends pretty far.. the bar doesn't sit quite as strait as it should imo Overall I really like the exhaust! If those 3 things were changed I'd love it! It is definitely louder than my custom 8"+ quiet 2ubular, but not too loud: -sounds meaner 3-6k rev range -little louder and meaner at WOT 6k+ rpms -significantly louder cruising in 6th gear than my 8" quiet 2ubular unfortunately -Idle and low rpms are close to the same sound as the 2ubular ..And about the tip - at first I didn't like it at all, but now that its on the car it has grown on me. I now like it, and think it looks fluid and uniform. Why would you want a tip thats larger than your actual exhaust diamater anyways? Most do, but it looks kinda ricer imo to have a huge 4" tip. Also I'm pretty sure it would change the sound if the tip was changed - theres no reason to change that though because it sounds great. My few gripes need to be fixed, but this is still the best streetable exhaust on the market in my opinion!! |

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you like it
![]() If I could address a couple items... 1) My first versions of it used a solid mounting bar. I actually opted to go with hollow bar after building 3 of them with the solid. I wanted it to flex MORE than the solid bar did. The more rigid the mount, the more likely something's got to bend or break, IMO. I've welded up and seen so many of the other exhausts on the market crack to no end with all of our engine movement, that I didn't want to take any chances. Once mounted, you can't see the smiled mount unless you get down on your knees and look for it, and to me, function outweighed form... 2) The clamps. We've never had one fail and they're appropriate for exhaust with deforming thread lock nuts (opposed to nyloc that melts)... so I'm not sure what to say there????? 3) Centering the can was a tough decision. The first few I made were centered with shorter cans, but the sound wasn't as desirable... I would have to run hard 90* bends to center the longer can and felt the long sweeping tip looked better with an off-center can than a hard 90* looked with a centered can. I feel the sweeping tip sounds better too... At first I questioned the off-center look... it has now grown on me and I like it a lot... Like many things, there are certain compromises for one thing vs the other. I promise that everything was done for a reason and thought through from several different perspectives (right or wrong )... The goal was to come up with a system that will stand the test of time for a track car, specifically a high HP track car, would be rebuildable, would sound great, and look cool --> in that order. With Coast's help and a LOT of time fiddling with these things, I think we came to a solution won't need to be repurchased and/or welded every season like the sealed units and did it without to much sacrafice![]() Thanks again! Phil

BOE Exhaust
I think I am one of the first who has installed Phil's exhaust.
(BOE Fabrication has done it again.) This exhaust is all about function and quality first and aesthetic second... and really not bad at all. Sound is great to my ears but like everything else it's a matter of preference and personality. Will it pass Laguna sound check? Well it did not pass "Le Circuit Mont Tremblant" in Canada at 93 db, exceeding by 1 db (rule is 92db). I got to say that Tremblant has its own way at measuring this figure and if you pass, they won't let you know your sound level... But my previous Setup was a Magnaflow (www.lotustalk.com/forums/f154/new-exhaust-67454/) and was way louder at almost 96db... ![]() Overall I am very happy with my exhaust and for the price, I would recommend this product without hesitation. ![]() Serge |
