Serge -
What version of the exhaust do you have? Hoping to hear some sound clips soon with stock, 1/4 stick and Silent Touch.

Have you run at Calabogi yet? they are really strict about sound. A bunch of us have been pulled off for sound levels. We all had a variety of mufflers from Magnaflow, Quicksilver and a Burns can setup much like yours. We were not impressed...a 4 hour drive there to have the day ended short due to sound levels.

BOE Exhaust
I have the Silent Touch.
I know what you mean. It happen to me at Tremblant. As for Calaboogie, my friend Marc has past the Test and he did not at Mt. Tremblant. We both installed a SuperTrapp (SuperTrapp 444-2503 - SuperTrapp Disc-Only Mufflers - Overview - SummitRacing.com) Not ideal but it saved the day.($65) Phil has some ideas that will help me. Again from my taste, sound level is not bad and very pleasant. Serge |

Yes, that is a solution I made up for the guy running the quicksilver exhaust. I have used Supertraps on numerous race and street car applications and they do work to suppress the db levels. On our Formula B car we tested the supertrap on the dyno and found we could drop 10db without power loss. They just look like hell and unlesss you have the "eye lid" heat sheild the exhaust heat cooks everything around the end of the supertrap.

Thanks Serge. I hope to make it up to Tremblant next year with the car, so I'd like a quiet exhaust that flows well. With the changeable tips, it'd be nice if you could pick up one with a downturn or something for tracks with DB checks, then you'd just have to loosen the exhaust clamp and change it out before heading to those tracks.
Perhaps I'll wait for BOE to come up with a diffuser exit one, as that might help reduce the DB levels some.

Received the Quarter Stick yesterday. Honestly I was a bit apprehensive about the sound of an exhaust that barely weighs in at 8 lbs. Too loud for street use? Tinny? Fart can-ish? NOT!
For those that know me or been to my home, you know I have this thing for exhausts...got 5 on my shelves as we speak I've got to say this is the BEST sounding exhaust I've had in the almost 5 years of ownership, hands down. It is sooo much quieter than any 6" can I've ever hung. There are no pops, drone, and I am decat as well. (Construction is top-shelf too) I'm big on idle sound, and this purrs like an F1 car. I'll try to get a sound clip up later this weekend. I offset the hangar with my bumperette exit, and painted the tip with high-temp silicone...looks sweet! Great job Phil! ![]()

Removable baffles??
Phil, here is a respectfully submitted concept from another industry.
The attached photo is of Akrapovic pipes fitted to a KTM 950SM. They use an insert, as shown, that is easily removable with an Allen wrench. When it is in place, the bike is very quiet and user friendly, virtually like stock. With it out, it is a big booming twin, not fit for polite company. I find that I like it open for blasts in the canyon or track days, but prefer it corked for long trips. Akra and the bike mags say the inserts only cost a couple HP. I wouldn't care if it was a bit more for normal riding. On the Lotus, I have a NA Elise with a Cup Airbox. Frankly, around town, that makes plenty of noise. On track, however, I want to be able to peel paint with the exhaust, as well as pick up a few HP. Maybe for the through the diffuser version, this might be an option for those of use who don't want to party ALL the time, or sometimes need to get past a decibel restricted track day. Great job on the first pipe. The rebuildable nature of it has me sold. ![]()
