Whoever thought working on a Lotus is hard, clearly hasn't tried it. Pick up a wrench and get some grease under your nails

I know the chambered mufflers suck on rotary engines. I imagine they might work well on an N/A car due to more need for back pressure, but most of the ones I've seen for sale would be to restrictive on a FI car in my opinion.

It would be nice if they would give you some dimensional measurements of the internal area of the muffler so you could calculate the sizes of the ports in between the baffles.

I am going to do my custom exhaust this week. I am planning to do 1 18" Magnaflow muffler and diffuser exist. Not going to use any dual tips and I want the pipe exit to be flush with the diffuser. I am also planning to cut a piece of aluminum to cover rest of the space in the OEM diffuser hole. Basically I want the exhaust exist to be as stealth as possible.

Wanna build a second one? maybe with some tabs so it could be riveted in place?

What do you guys do about the hole in the OE diffuser post exhaust swap?

I bought a dry carbon rear diffuser with out the hole.

I've have seen a few cars here in Japan where they covered both sides of the hole with duct tape. Then they spray paint over it so it blends in. I've also seen them cut a thin piece of aluminum that is larger than the hole. Paint it and then use double sided molding tape to stick it to the diffuser as well.

Duct tape? wow. I knew it had a million and one uses....but...wow.

I considered a CF diffuser like
ReVerie CF Rear Diffuser - 3 Element for the Lotus Elise and Exige - Sector111
until I saw the price.

I wonder if a good welder could make it hole-less and still look clean?

This is what I did. Put a bend a squareish piece of flashing material from the local HD or Lowes and stick it to the diffuser with dbl sided tape. Blends in very well even without paint. I've never had anyone notice it and it's been that way for a couple years now with no problems...

Later,

Phil

pics? If you have em... no worries if Not

Did you just make it big enough to cover the hole? or the entire center section? I could experiment with this...but I'm @ work, so you know curiosity is bugging me.

I looked everywhere at Home depot tonight and can't find any aluminum material I like, its either too thin or too small. Those flashing material from HD are paper thin. I ended up buying a piece of baking sheet from Target. This should be available everywhere and it looks much better than regular unfinished metal (and cheaper too!!). Very close to the OEM brushed look. I bought some 500F metal epoxy and I am going to glue it to my diffuser tomorrow. I will post some pictures when I am done.

AirBake Ultra Natural Cookie Sheet - 16x14" : Target

A warning to everyone on this one... it looks polished in the picture but as you can see in my previous pictures, its not.

Tip - MPE-35136
90 degree bend - MPE-10706
Clamp - DTC-89-702500

I'll post pics of it on the car shortly.
I am almost convince to go in the same direction. However how is the sound? Noise level is monitored at most local track we attend.

Thanks

Serge
