Pop and Gurgle - LotusTalk

I'm just curious on what people mean by pop and gurgle? Can somebody send me youtube example(s) of what it sounds like? I think I have an idea what it sounds like but I have always been led to believe that it was a bad sound, not good...

The reason I ask is because I recently bought an Arqray exhaust and I've never heard anything simular. I can't imagine a simular sound coming from a Celica(GTS)

Pops and gurgles happen when deccelerating i believe. At the end of this vid you can hear the pops when he deccelerates

It's on decel. You get it on more open exhausts. It does sound like gurgling and popping.
My car does it a ton and I've had quite a few comments from other car guys when they get in how they love it. Its a good thing.

here is one of my vids, i also have the arqray. you can hear the pops at 1:10, it pops after every shift. the popping sound is the unburned fuel burning in the exhaust system.

and by the way, do i just email you to get some stickers? i want the colin chapman signature(2) and the sticker that has all the years that lotus won F1

when i bring the revs up to 5k and abruptly let off the gas, it sounds like a very loud gun. i am surprised how incredibly loud the pops can be

My stage 2 pops and gurgles all day long on decel. I was downtown one crowded night and blipped my throttle on a decel, car backfired and sounded like a gunshot. It scared the crap out of all the people in the crosswalk in front of me.

I also scare the hell out of people when it pops or on full throttle. I love it, I love it, I love it. I just miss the the turbo and blow off valve sound of my ex-EVO.

I have a 6" larini sport and pops everytime i let go of the accel,
but i dont think it ever made a flame in the back, especially i m on stock cat and headers

but damn... so much droning in 3000~4000rpm, cnt even heear my frd yelling on the side lol

btw do anyone make misfiring systems??

ps: liked the pop, but will love the flame

It's caused by decel fuel cut, and it's safe unless it's to the point where your rolling a ball of fire out of the back end (Fire Bad

) or if your getting really hard pops as they can damage the catalytic converter / muffler baffling. If you have a tunable computer you can adjust the map to get rid of it... I personally like a little bit of a cackle myself...

I have a 2Bular 6" Exhaust and while it does not really pop much during deceleration, it will pop like crazy if I let go of the gas at 5-6K RPM and give a little nudge on the pedal right away. Works especially well going downhill as the engine break will keep the revs fairly high, and if during that time I give quick little gas, the exhaust will just gurgle and pop sometimes quite noisily.

i've noticed when decelerating that if I give it a teeny tiny bit of gas it does it even more. so now I do it all the time, its kind've addicting
