Dan,
So cruising around town or 70-80 mph on the hwy at lower rpms it is perfectly ok. Just higher rpms it is louder or at the track. That sounds acceptable to me. Any feel of the pants performance increase? Thanks, Brad

Either of the two are definitely a very good VFM, and will make you smile when you thrash the pedal to the floor! And trust me, you'll do it more often than before! It simply makes your day!Indeed, cruising around town or at the speeds you mentioned aren't a nuisance for anyone. The only nuisance will be in your mind then, because you'll get addicted from the exhaust note, and you'll want to play a bit more with the gas pedal. Have fun, Theo |

Time to DRIVE

I have the QS and posted comparison dyno results here somewhere. I love the sound of mine and I am not one that wanted it for that purpose. It is lighter but it really makes no difference in performance (none of them do!). But, be sure, it IS louder! Not in the Harley league though. IMO most of the sound energy is in much lower frequencies than stock, so mine sounds quieter than stock at idle. However when crossing to the upper cams you can really hear the sound change and a wonderful burble when it witches back

IIRC from the dynos was that stage 2 didn't add any power and that the QS actually lost 1 hp or so.

I think the main difference in the sound is the fact that the QS exhaust lets the sound leave the car via the exhaust while the stock exhaust made the engine sound louder. I doubt that it caused an hp loss as my times at Road Atlanta got better after I got the exhaust. At the same time I can say that I was a lot more used to the car at the second event so this may be the main reason for 2-3 second better lap times.

Thanks, I needed that.
QS soon to be ordered, checkbook lighter, Elise lighter, sounds better and maybe a few ponies. Brad

How do I attach an AVI file? I have a brief one (2-3 seconds) but the QS can be heard.

just replaced mine with quicksilver sport (the latest version), it took myself and a friend 2 hours. we didn't need to take off a wheel, just the rear diffuser/air dam thing. it's tight under there, but it wasn't hard to work on. it was harder to remove stock than to drop in the quicksilver!
the stock exhaust is HUGE... and heavy. quicksilver just looks like the right size. I'm really surprised the stock was the size it is. sound impressions. it is louder than stock. and quiter than stock. let me explain. at idle, it is deeper but as quiet. at 3-4k, cruising, it is quieter than stock. at 2800, it is dead silent. almost impossible to tell the car is running. This all changes at higher rpms; more rounded sound and louder. low rpms are much louder too, if you are accelerating. the noise level is a function of acceleration, not rpm's. makes sense. popping is cool, but isn't that a euphemism for backfiring? I know nothing about cars. it's hard to explain, it just sounds tougher than before. interestingly, throttle at low rpms for a slow, smooth launch from a stop is MUCH better. before, it had a tendency to lug if you were light with the gas, now it is much smoother down low. As for response througout the range, I think audio feedback helps immensely... 5krpm before sounded strained, I had a habit of not keeping the rpm's higher unless accelerating really hard; sounds more consistent now, I don't cringe thinking I'm straining it now. haven't heard anything but stock and QS, but now way was I modifying the car, so it was my only choice. I like it. go for it. I'll have a means to do a high-quality recording next weekend. |

I took delivery of my car with QS already installed. I drove a demo months ago (with stock exhaust)and as I recall it was quieter and tamer sounding.
I get many positive comments on the QS exhaust note, It sounds kind of like a cross between a sport bike and a Ferrari, really wails in the cams. I've noticed more popping and burbling lately, very much like a race exhaust. IMHO, the QS exhaust has really added to the joy of driving the Elise, I'd recommend it.

The QS (Stage 2 is nice too) Makes the car sound as badass as it looks.

I agree with Jer, the Quicksilver gives the Elise attitude. The sound of the car now matches its looks. With the stock exhaust, it sounded ok but too mechanical.
I've driven both QS and Stage II exhausts, both sound excellent. To me, it came down to the QS because its cheaper, lighter, and requires no modification to the undertray. Installation of either would be easy but the QS is easier without having to cut the tray. Took us about 1.5 hrs. -Dave |

I got my Quicksilver delivered today
Jerry will help me install it on Sunday so in the meantime I was looking for anything Quicksilver and found these great clips. If people haven't seen them it's worth it!Quote:

Well, we got Doug's QS in last night. Took about 2 hours but we worked leisurely, and also ended up pulling the service panel for a looksee at the surface of it and the engine. There was a small oil leak from his filter, which I hope we tightened up enough.
If we just focused on the exhaust, we probably could have finished it in an hour. The thing sounds great, and I hope Doug's happy. On the test spin Doug let me drive a bit and I got her momentarily sideways on those bald 48s! A bit of pucker-sorry Doug!
