Sport Cat or De-Cat

Here I am not asking or arguing about who makes them but to ask,
in general, the advantages and disadvantages between Sport cat and De-cat.

I know de-cat will be louder and allow the exhaust flow more freely, but I am pretty sure there are downsides to them; so is sport cat.
(toxicity, rust SS exhaust much faster, low end power, etc?)

please comment what you have and what your concerns are about the two.

de cat is "not street legal" but reduces the amount of heat in the engine bay significantly

I love the sound of my Larini decat, but I've tried everything to eliminate the CEL without success.

Does everything include an ECU tune? When I got my CharlieX ECU tune for the lower cam changeover, I also asked him to account for the Fujita CAI, FF header, hi-flo cat and / or cat bypass. I just got my hands on the cat bypass pipe though, so I haven't been able to test the no CEL theory yet. It's been a couple years though and no CEL as of yet due to the hi-flo cat.

Does not. I've tried the resistor and the stacked spark plug antifoulers. If/when I add a supercharger, I'll look to address this issue. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have the larini decat with silencer.. I haven't noticed it being much louder than it was with the cat, but I will say it spews black gooey **** all over the back of my white car - even after only a short drive. After a track event, the entire back of the car turns brown.

Well that sucks. Hopefully my diffuser exit exhaust will keep any such spew off the car.

I'm hoping my car is louder though.

I have a decat pipe on my '05 Elise BWR SC.

Yeah, it's loud, but I like it that way.

No CEL because I use a WeaponR "CEL Eliminator". Works perfectly. See pic.

In Ohio, I registered my car as a "Collector" vehicle, which means NO emissions testing. So I'm "street legal" even with the decat.

Regards,
Wayne

well loud is fine (pretty sure will love it) but the smell??

maybe have to experience in order to speak

try driving low profile, that might not attract too much unwanted attention?

decat is a good option but is it worth the hassle when it comes to mot time especially with the undertray?

If you have the quick release fasteners for the undertray and ramps, you can swap out the decat for the cat within 45 minutes. No need to remove the muffler either, although you can with a few extra minutes work.

Not too bad for a once a year project.

Wayne
