I can't answer your question, but I didnt use anything and it came off fine, just had to twist it back and forth until it came off. Had a friend help me on that part... he twisted while I pulled and caught it under the car (made sure it didnt land on me)

+1 Agreed. Just finished my Stage II install, no need to remove diffuser or loosen driver side hanger bolts. It took less than 2 hours total time - mostly because I was being so cautious!

My car finally sounds like a LOTUS!!

Here is a small tip for the install: When removing the stock exhaust system, here is an easier way to slide it apart from the cat pipe.

1. Do not remove the Right side hangers yet!

2. Generously spray some wd-40 / liquid wrench on the clamp and loosen all the way

3. Tap the frame of the muffler to the passenger side with a rubber mallet. Gives it some good beating and you will see the pipes start to slide apart.

4. Once you get the pipes apart, then you can remove the right side hangers and the exhaust will be free

I followed these instructions and had my new exhaust on in about 2 hours. The hardest part was getting the undertray / diffuser back on and that was just tedious. Thanks for documenting the process for us.

OK, read this great thread and decided to turn my first oil change into a Stage II install as well.

My Stage II is used. The clamp has been tightened before and ID is too small to go over cat pipe.

Any suggestions for improvised pipe flares?

Take it to a local muffler shop and ask them to open it slightly up for you, they will probablydo it for free or if not a couple of bucks.

Superb. I searched Harbor Freight for"pipe flare" and drew a blank.

Thanks to both for responses.

Make sure you don't reuse a tclamp that has been used before. The lotus ones are one time only. Exhausts falling off IS a problem with this car and has set some cars on fire before

Thanks. I ordered some T-bolts from Summit Racing and will look at Sector or von Hep rear panel delete for ease of inspection.

If I do the rear panel delete the Stage II will look weird, so I will have to buy a 2Bular
And then the diffuser will have a hole with no purpose, so I will need a Reverie

And when my wife asks why it cost so much to install a cheap exhaust, everyone here will back up my logic!

All done. Oil changed, Janspeed Stage II installed. Sheared one exhaust clamp bolt and numerous cuts and bruises but had fun and learned a lot about the car.

Driving the car without the diffuser on felt really weird. I look forward to the go-faster effect of clean oil!

BTW, I love the Stage 2. Sounds great!!

FYI the link to the Summit Racing site is bad, try this instead
