Are we sure there is a Toyota number? I just searched high and low on the TRD website and none of the kits appear to be like Cup air boxes. Perhaps TRD made some air boxes unique to the cup cars? Just a thought...

Cheers,

Phil

I'm thinking it is sandwhiched between the main box and the smaller outer piece versus being inserted inside like the N/A filters

If you see Jack's photo above, the partially obscured number is actually the part number on the edge of the filter.

Just a thought...

I actually called the dealer about this box this morning. Price is $160. I also called for the Cup IC and $2140!!! I thought $600-$800. Damn I got mad...anyway. My plan is to buy the cup airbox drop in a green filter, buy 550cc injectors and have Charlie retune my Gotham flash.

looks like a good and inexpensive mod...but as mentioned above will this actually work? or would we need a complete reflash/tune?

I think we have an incorrect part number someplace. I found some pics of this filter (17801-ZE200) and it appears to just be a high-flow version of the stock sized filter...

Typically TRD only uses airboxes for their intake kits in the trucks and SUVs. So my guess is that fitfan is right and that the box came off a truck...

It won't need a flash as long as the MAF setup is the same as the stock box. Being TRD, it probably will be fine. Toyota doesn't sell a new flash when they sell TRD intake kits. They design the TRD intake kits to free up restriction without causing add'l tuning or emissions issues.

It would be interesting to see if this airbox gives add'l gains above and beyond simply porting the stock airbox. I've got a 3" hole in the back of the stock airbox along with a little more swiss-cheesing....We're down to a filter surface area issue and whether or not a KN or Green filter of the stock size flows sufficient CFM w/o restriction to feed a SC'ed 2ZZ.

Best,

Phil

More a matter of reading it carefully, really.
That's the p/n for the high flow filter for the "stock n/a airbox."

Personally, I'd go for something else before going for that TRD filter. Like you said though, the box doesn't look like anything TRD currently offers (yeah, I know there's a p/n on top of it) and the filter looks like a bone stock OEM Toyota filter.

Don't forget the larger fuel pump, especially if you're planning on going to larger injectors.

Cody,

You need some help...

Standard "paper" air filter for larger air box -- 17801-03010
TRD high flow filter for larger air box -- PTR05-06990-01

that's true. Your car has 440s, right? I heard it's a lot of work to change the fuel pump. I'm running kind of lean right now with the stock box and green filter even with the 440s maxed out via Gotham. If I get the cup airbox, it will lean it out even further, that's why I'm talking about 550s. Are you guys absolutely sure stepping up to 550s will require uprated fuel pump?

+1. I would be willing to wager a small amount of money that Lotus did not have an injection mold made for some, what 5-700 sport airboxes it might sell?

so we have the filter part #, is there an airbox #?

Jack,

Now these guys just need the p/n on top of your airbox.

I think Brian is correct.... there is no air box mold -- the larger Cup car air box actually consists of two halves of air boxes sourced from different Toyota models along with an adapter plate so that the two halves will fit together.

The only air box part number would be the Lotus Sport part number, as I don't think this air box, as a unit, exists in a particular Toyota car. But, I could always be wrong.
