I like the sound of your exhaust, but is anyone running it with the "S"? Do you have any plans for making an updated (not just cosmetic tip mod, but less restrictive) exhaust for the S?

Now that I have over 1k miles on my Von Hep Exhaust, the sound is a lot nicer than when very new. I take the car for 2-hour trips regularly and it does not bother me as much as it did right after installing it. I still think my car is loud when I am not in the mood for spritted driving but I do not want to drive my Elise without the Von Hep. Even my wife likes it. I am going to put back the snorkle. Maybe the extra few dBs are from it.

Overall, I recommend the Von Hep. Great product quality, and support. It took me a total of 2 hours to install it with home garage tools (BTW, I usually pay to get work done on my car but after looking at the installation instructions, I thought it would be stupid to pay for the installation, so I did it myself). I have the single tip coming out of the stock difuser. It took just 2 hours because I did not remove the license plate, cover, and insulation.

There are few tunnels in DC. I make sure I pass through them at 7k+ rpm each time I go downtown. The car sounds great, even better than the YouTube video clip.

I installed mine Thursday and then installed my new tip today. The exhaust is top notch, very high quality and I prefer the sound over the Stage II. Seems to have less resonance/drone at crusing RPMs but just as loud on cam I tried to like the persicope tip (JK Jeff) but ended up modifying the system and using a MagnaFlow tip I had, I think it turned out pretty nice...

Here are some pics of the assembly steps and finished product:

I wonder who is louder now, we have to be pretty close. Not much difference in design- straight through and out.

WOW!!! I thought I was the only one with an Elise with Walton, Ga tags... Just got to love the small county offices. They sent me motorcycle tags when I first registered my Elise.

The sound is great, but has anyone noticed that after running the exhaust and the bolts melt to secure themselves, that the pipe coming of the the exhaust warps slightly? I took off my diffuser again to manually try to bend it back to shape, but found that it was crooked again. I am pretty sure I positioned the tip to where I wanted it, but after driving around for a day, I noticed that it shifted.

Sounds like your clamps could use a bit of tightening. The one on the right side of the muffler is probably the culprit. Let me know if I can help.

Are these the clamps holding up the muffler (which can only be finger-tightened), or the ones attaching the exhaust pipe to the muffler (or are these called o-rings)? Would "right" be the driver's or passenger's side? When I'm under the car, right to me is the driver side.

How do I tighten it more when the goo stuff inside the bolt have already melted and bonded?

I'll take a picture and post it up tonight. I've also been working on some detailed step-by-step instructions, which are a little different that the STAGE 2 Install How-To w/pics because I had to remove the hanger bolts on the driver's side, since the friction from the rubber kept me from removing the stock exhaust.

Bend it Like Beckham

Hey Jeff (motododo), thanks for the call. You were right. I totally did not see the allen socket in the clamps holding the silicon to the muffler. Kind of stupid for me to think that it's finger-tightened only. You were right, too, that the other bolts can still be tightened even after the internal plastic melts.

Though I did notice something kind of weird when I was under my car again. I noticed that the exhaust pipe wasn't perfectly parallel to the edge of the car:

I loosened the clamp from the exhaust pipe to the muffler and checked that it was fitted properly (and not crooked):

Because the exhaust pipe wasn't bent enough downwards (maybe from the temperature change?), the exhaust tip was also a little crooked:

I remember making the tip straight when I installed it, but my problem was that I never tightened the bolts holding the muffler to the supporting hollow tube arms. I don't know if this had anything to do with my problem.

After some tinkering with the clamp for the exhaust tip, I still couldn't get the tip to be in the position that I wanted. So I grabbed the rounded end of the exhaust pipe, put my feet against the wheels, and applied some elbow grease to bend it like Beckham. After some time, I got it to position itself a little better:

I tightened the bolts and nuts as hard as I could time time, so hopefully, it will stay.
