Same issue - Clutch Slipping Fast Year Changes

Hi, I just received my 2008 Exige SC 240 and it also slips the clutch when doing fast gear changes on any gear. How did you solve your problem? I was told this is a protection mechanism on the ECU.

Please let me know!

Good car. Just some things worth noting:

- Idle when not warmed up stays around 1500rpm, then settles around 900 but hunts a bit.

Under semi-spirited break in inhibited driving. No difference with/out AC on.
Relative Humidity 60 - 85 %
AmbientTemp 23 - 30C

- lower loading driving constant temps 88-89C
- higher loading driving constant temps 90 91C
- After hardish driving, heat soaks quick, temps don't go down at idle, rise up to 97-99C. But lower to above 2 temps relatively quickly.
- At idle, if turn on AC and fans come on temps will lower 1-2C.

- Reverse, 2nd and 4th gear particularly hard to engage

- Clucth slipping when quick shift then full throttle. Engine will redline, then catch on mysteriously. This has happened to me in 3rd and 4th gear pulls in total of 4 times. pretty consistant.

Will need to take in to dealer for this one but one time this happened, I saw the LSD light on. Could it be that? But why would the rpm be allowed to shoot past redline...

Front right speaker grill starting to rattle. Box I had in the trunk knocked off bother light connectors - becareful of this!

Gear shift pretty knotchy, and probably what bothers me the most, is the flimsey center console construction.

AP brakes over sensitive when driving in slow city traffic. BUt for high speeds braking, they feel spot on. Balanced...

Stock set up VERY forgiving to drive. Well balanced. Am able to drive the car semi causaully, and still be very fast. It just handles great.

Finding it really hard to adjust to this pedal set. Heal toe is difficult to control the pressures seperately needed on pedals when brake/throttle pedals are so close to one another. Do most of you find you're doing outside toe rather than heal toe?

This car is just awesome. Very impressed over all but need to sort out the clutch issues.

I have read more people saying the clutch slips... I have not had that happen to me and I have about 4,000 miles on it. What I do experience is that when the car is not up to temp or if it's cold out, the shift from 2nd to 3rd is notchy. It appears that when the clutch is engaged all the way it is delayed and doesn't allow it to happen as quickly. After up to temp its fine...

hi, sorry havent been on this forum in a while.

it's the return hose, defects make the passage way smaller than spec. thus oil return is insufficient. dealer replaced under warantee.

prior to this, the clutch pump and master cylinder were replaced. So if you are having same issues, should be your problem.

In an attempt not to start another thread, I thought I would ask this here.

The manual for the 240S says traction control can only be engaged while you start the car. I seem to be able to turn mine on anytime.

Any thoughts?

?

It is default on when you turn the car on.

You can toggle traction control on and off (with % adjustability) at any time. Are you speaking of launch control or traction control?

EricH,

That is what I thought. I am going to look back at the manuel again, but I thought it clearly said you can only turn on traction control when the car is started and then dial it in.

The way mine works... sets it to the default on "factory traction control setting".
If you turn the ignition to on position and hold the button it allows you to dial in the amount of slip or turn it off.

That may not be how it's stated but that's how mine seems to be working...
I will double check the language also.

I can hit the traction control button on the shifter (hold it down) at any time to turn it on or off (and then % setting dial on the steering column).

See if yours will work anytime.

Mine does.

This is a much more user friendly way. When I read the manual, I thought WTF. I bought a 70k dollar car and the only way to adjust or turn on the traction control is when I turn the car on .

i think the "on" means the adjustability is on with option of full off. everytime the engine is stopped, the system resets to full TC100% on. when the console button is pressed, turn dial, keyed to desired settings. never tried adjusting with out pressing the button, if it does adjust with out the button, what's the point of having a button at all?

When i have TC dialed off, ECU wont let me pass mid rpm range in first. RPM will bounce, I think via fuel cut until I let off the gas. anyone else getting this?

Sure the engine wasn't cold? If its less than about 160F, the rev limiter is at 6k rpm. You don't want to rev high when the engine is cold in general anyways. Wait till 180F!
