Thank you very much Matt, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I'd rather not start a fight about what car's better and blah blah blah haha. Thank you for the criticism the negative and positive the majority of it was constructive. Regardless of the brand of engine the 2.4l will still have more torque which is what I'm looking for. The 2.4l I have does have forged internals and is not an srt4 engine with a stock turbo that some kid boosted. As far as a viper or a z06 getting beaten by an srt4 I hope no one would ever be so naive to think that just because they own a viper or vette that they won't be beaten by a $25k car with $25k worth of mods to it. Btw this is the neon I'm talking about... AMS SRT-4 vs C6 Zo6- Video I don't condone street racing and the camera work is bad because my friends brother sucks at using a camera haha but it shows what the car was capable of. The swap may be more trouble than it's worth so I might end up sticking with the 2zz and see what I can do with that. I'm not one of those people that drops their car off at a shop and tells them to make it fast. I like to do things myself and I usually have the ability to do so. Thanks again guys sorry if I upset anyone hehe.

A one off swap costs about $50,000 more in time than subsequent swaps, if you do it properly and don't cut corners. An engine which revs to 6200 or 6400 rpm with a 4 inch stroke is not going to be very inspiring.

Secant Engineering offers the Ecotec swap, 2.0l, supercharged, former Chevy Cobalt SS/Ion Redline motor.

My point is: That is proven to "work" in one way or another if you're looking for a motor candidate.

You claimed that car had 500 hp. The comments from the owner in the video says he has 792 hp.

That's a hell of a big difference.

yeah but that's not what he usually had it running at. He hit 800+ with race fuel at the track but he usually had the car tuned way down for the street.

Your a bit touchy for a guy who has that nice of a hood orniment on his car...

Seriously though, why the Neon doubt or hate? There are Neon show cars, whether or not you like them is the issue. I tend to shy away from anything that has more show than go myself.

There are also Neons with loads of horsepower out there. Do the engines blow up under high boost? Oh yea. But thats half the fun right? I will say this. That engine will last much longer than the Elises engine under boost. Dodge did their homework on that engine, I actually discussed it a number of times with the chief engineer while he was on campus at Purdue. It was designed from the ground up to be low compression, high boost. The 2zz was not.

So there are Neons that can hand Vettes their butt out there. There are also Neon ACR owners out there that could drive circles around many Elise/Exige owners on the track. I never get caught up in the who is faster than who game though. I enjoy my cars for what they are worth, and am content with the smile they bring to my face.

Remember, there is always someone faster than you out there. With the Elise though, they probably dont look as good, haha.

I recognized one race as being East-bound on I-30 near 360. Six Flags is in the background.

From a money perspective, you would be much better off going with a pre-engineered option and selling the engine. Don't let anyone dog your engine, I agree that the Toyota/Yamaha lump is not one of the better 4 bangers out there MHO. However if you, or your friends have the ability to do what it takes to pull this off, and you are willing to spend a bunch of cash and time, there have been a large number of different engines put in the back of this chassis. However, it will cost you some serious cash to do so. All the things you don't think about generally require very specialized solutions. It is worth keeping in mind that there are those who look down on our cars-who gives shti about all this we are all enthusiast-it's about sharing the enthusiasm. Actually, it's about dramatically increasing hp and smoking all the pricks in Porsches, Ferraris and Lambos so I think you are on to something

so much hate for neons lol its so funny.. like some of you look down on it like a slave owner.. seriously, its just another car.. i will never part with my neon srt4... so much damn tourque and hp (i shld be over 600 on both) and i still get 30 mpg... there is a stock srt block tht has gone 600 hp.. you can build the motor to rev 8k rpms with low comp to boost higher.. ignorence is the worse flaw of people i swear..

i do agree with the point of being a lot of money to complete the project so it might not be worth it.. but for the same reason people stuff v8s into the smallest cars, so they can say they did it and have the cool factor.. if i ever do try this, it will be on a wrecked ecige/elise. i wouldn't chop up a perfectly good car.. i would take time doing the damn thing too.. 3 years, so what.. make your own parts.. tub exh mani etc etc..

to OP: i'll prob be in tex late march.. taking a road trip.. look at some places to live..
