I did not know the Lotus Exige (S) MY 2006 was so rare in the USA? 2006 was the year they introduced the Exige and the Exige S in the USA. So I presume there were only limited number available a the time? The Exige S was introduced in Europe in 2006.

If the Exige and the Exige S were available at the same time in 2006. How come some USA Exige buyers complain about the fact that there was also a more powerful Exige S available. Some Exige owners felt ripped of with there less powerful Exige. Could they not have bought the MY06 Exige S instead?

In Europe we have the Exige from MY 2004 and the S from 2006. Most used Exige (and Exige S) I have found in Europe are MY 2006... So nothing exclusive here. But the USA customer have got the nicer interior and airbags from MY06. We now got it from MY08...

The Exige S was not available in the US for MY2006.

AND because the Exige S was technically available as an 08, but according to others here who claim inside knowledge the only 08 Exige S's brought into the US were the Club Racers and the S240's, the 2007 Exige S (220) exists in the US in probably pretty close to the same numbers as the 2006 Exige.

Okay, now I understand why some people were mad at Lotus. Buying a new Exige and one year later there is a more powerful S... Not so nice from Lotus

They introduced the Exige in Europe in 2004. From 2004 till 2006 we also had some expensive limited edition Cup models. From MY06 the normal Exige S arrived. In my opinion the 2 years between the Exige and Exige S is okay to not make previous costumers mad. That's the same time between the Exige S and the S240 (that's available from 2008 in Europe).
