Calling Hong Kong lotus peoples!

Hey all,

im in hk for a week and would be interested to meetup either on a track or see the lotus boys or attending any events worth attending! Im in Wan Chai approximately 150 metres away from richburg lotus maserati showrooms.

That or give me the heads up what to do in Hong kong! things to see sights/car wise. Talking to the lotus guy and he says that the closest track is 1.5 hours away and you cant rent a car to take there and give a shake down. little disappointed in that but no great loss.

Any advice is appreciated. Cheers!

Good luck finding a track in HK, there is no such thing there. It'd be nice to even have autox there. As for cars, you should see plenty of nice ones on the road.

Since you are going there, might as well enjoy the food and shopping instead.

did you talk to Addy at richburg lotus? or was it Max. The closest track he meant probably by Zuhai in China, you need a VISA to travel in there. As white_turbo said there's no such thing as track or anything close to being one in hongkong. Im no expert of HongKong however I could point you to where some really exotic cars are stationed, that's IFC in central. Oh check out Lan_gwai_fong, great pubs, walking distance from IFC

There is a decent kart track at diamond coast in north west HK.

If you want entertainment thats more racy than Lan Kwai Fong then just walk another 100 meters past Richburg and you are in the bars of Wanchai.

Normally a few exotic car owners go out for what they call "Morning Drive" where they go to "Luk Geng" on Sunday mornings at 7AM (Give or take). Sometimes you'll get to see the rare exotics such as the Zonda or the 959 but for the majority are the GT3 RS's, 430's, and 360's that you'll most likely see. Also the roads there are definately worth checking out, great twists and bends. Heres a picture I took when I drove the Lotus down in winter.

zhuhai track

was constructed for f1, however, it is only a short ferry ride away from hk.

you can rent formula renaults there. contact asia racing team, head instructor is named phillippe and he knows his stuff. best time i've had and an eye opening experience for sure. all runs are data logged and analyzed afterwards.

several other lotus areas are also at the track as some of the hk lotus people keep their cars there.

Non car things to do in HK.
  • Dinner on Victoria Peak
  • High end shopping at IFC or Harbor
  • Specialty shopping at Temple Street and Jade Market
  • Must see Polin Temple (not sure about spelling, it is near the airport)
  • Pubs and late night, go to Lan Qwai Fan (hillside behind Central)
  • Head over to Macow if you are into the casino seen. It is the Vegas of Asia only a short jet boat ride from HK.

Have fun.

I live in HK. there are several track days organized per year through different groups. Usually these are segmented by participants, there's the super car guys with porshces and ferrraris, then there's the japanese racers. Lotus are commonly found mixing it up in both. Though expensive 1200-1500USD entry fee for 1.5days of track, inclusive hotel, temporary china driving permit/insurance/license, it's the only option. Conversly if you can live without your car for 6 months at a time, you can keep your car at the circuit in zhui hai. ZIC is too small for F1 racing, it's more for F3, lots of hairpins, one straight, one chicane, couple semi high speed corners. Sometimes they have track days in malaysia or shanghai f1 circuit, but obviously the cost is huge.

You can rent china made race preppedgeelys, ex race hondas at the track as well. More economical but nothing is like your own ride. Karting facilities are abundant in china, one at ZIC, coule good ones farther into mainland, one in tuen mun, newterritories.

Then there's the morning drives, these typically happen on weekends, sunday predominantly. Here you'll find a collection of hot cars and enthusiats. Typicall cars arrive in groups of friends or clubs. Some opt to cruise casually in, and others will hit up the usual spots, several famous mountain roads, and adjoining highways before going in for breakfast at luk geng. Can get a good 50-100kms of hard driving in, if you dare. Cops and cameras are public enemy number one.

There's a lotus club in HK, they generally do the cruise in type. I don't know them yet cos waiting for my car but I still drive my other cars when ever i can on these morning drives. PM me, I'd be happy to invite you to come or give some more info.

Sorry no pics of lotus's... these pics are old, from 2-3 years ago before I was interested in this little gem. But there are a lot and increasingly so. I have pics and need to upload, think it's some french racing team that put together a S1 powered by Honda Type R and center mounted driver's seat, yes like McLaren minus two hot chick seats on sides...

some old pictures from sunday morning drives:

Mag,

You know I will be hanging out with you if I go back to HK couple of years later. However, I won't be able to afford an exotic, so I ask for your permission to ride along.

yea PM me with info when time comes. No need for exotics, Japanese war machines are just as good.

there's more from the bag where that came from... I've seen the veryon, enzo FXX, McLaren ect ect ... when my friends and I saw the DBR9, we screamed like a bunch of teenage girls front row at new kids on the block concert. still waiting to see the MC12, couple around.

but you know it's funny our eyes get so spoiled with exotics around here, that I don't even look 0.5 times when ferrari's pass by, only double take if it's a F40 or something... a 70-80's TA22 celica seems to drum up more emotion.

Yea sure any of you car nuts stop thru HK, these happen regularly on sundays weather permits, i'd be happy to take you along.

still looking for pics of that S1 conversioin, it was really neat.

5/24 so far so good, but i really suggest going on one of these sunday morning drives. It's a bit like mixed grab bag of what cars show up, but don't think you'll be dissapointed if it's just the "regulars".

shopping and eating... yes that is an accurate description of this town. My propensity to spend money and gain weight have increased by multiples since moving back.

feel free to PM me if in town.
