if my experience is any barometer, there is probably a 900% markup as soon as it hits the FVMC parts department. They are shameless.

Yeah... that's so expensive that I put it in the catagory of more money than brains. It's roughly 10% of the cost of a used exige! At $1500 it's worth consideration but at $4500 it's a used honda civic...

I don't see how attaching a used honda civic to the exige will help performance any ?

Not the whole Civic, silly - just the K20A thingy from under the hood.

Honda civic didn't have a K20. That would be RSX or Integra(in japan)

I got a question about the scoop being that far forward... Is there no issue with the huge amounts of hot air from the radiator going straight into that scoop.

It was scorching at the track today and while putsing around the pits I reached my hand out, around to the windshield and felt the hot air and there is tons of VERY hot air that flows straight up the windshield and then maybe right into that scoop? Wouldn't that not be terribly efficient for the IC intake.

Really?

Funny that's not what Honda says:

You would attach the civic to the front with the trailer underneath the Exige.
Then run R compound which would help the performance.

I can only assume that you are kidding... the FVMC parts guys are super helpful, and their markup isn't out of the ordinary.

This isn't meant as a jab, but maybe you are used to Chevy part prices? Remember, our cars are very limited production so the design and manufacturing costs are only divided by a limited # of cars... this results in higher prices, mostly from the manufacturer (Lotus), not FVMC.

Those guys are solid people, be fair now...

Thomas

Similar roof systems are supposedly ~2500 , and that includes mark-up.
Admittidly I haven't looked closely as I have a soft top, but they are supposedly in 2 parts (inner-outer), and are complicated.
I am not saying FVMC is shameless... But for 4500 that would cover some instruction and/or a set of r-compounds, which would help performance.
On the road the top would look great - but would it help performance?
Between 0 and 70, it isn't likely.
The shameless part would be to chuck 4500 away, thinking it is doing more than just looking (which it does a great job of).

It would make sense if you're racing and you want to lower the CG of the car..but for normal fellas it could be a tad too much

Ripping out the A/C and passanger seat would make sense weight wise.
Weight wise the soft top is also light.
(But the top sure looks nice...)

Something else to consider:

Any exterior mod on my car is going to have to be color-matched. Ain't gonna drive around with a $5K roof that looks unfinished. So add on an extra $1000?? Now we're talking possibly over $6000 for a cf Cup roof!!!!

Sorry, but I think I'll wait.

I could care less if the top was made from CF or Fiberglass. I just want the looks and the extra cooling. 5K is just more than Im willing to spend for mostly looks. The roof does look nice though.

I am with you here... If it saves 10lbs I'd be shocked. I'm pretty shocked that noone has stepped up to have a fiberglass roof built. If it's good enough for the Cup 255, it's good enough for our needs while not costing 3X what it should.

you don't have to get it painted right away. In fact, it might look really good only clearcoated with our cars being GG. It might blend in really well. Especially if you get the CF side intakes, rear wing, splitter, diffuser and skirts.

Agree with the above...
The last thing I would do is paint it (would clear it with a UV blocker though).

You could save some money by putting the skirt inside...
On second though - that is a really expensive option.
Any links on the skirts (or are you refering to the cantrell) - not sure if I like that ook - but interested in seeing it.
