Cup power in Exige S available now!

Lotus has just released a Limited edition S. see link

http://www.grouplotus.com/car/car_pr...hp?id=2&mid=24

As an option it has what they call the GT pack, it seems like it basically turns the S into a Cup.

Hopefully you guys can order one with the GT pack and all this full throttle and injector debate will be no longer relevant. Your car will arrive with 243hp

Lotus Motorsport do the GT pack "post registration" so it should be possible to do it to existing S cars at the factory or at Cup dealers.

Limited to just 25 cars in the UK only at this point. GBP 5,000.

It must be possible to get this on an S somehow though

Actually I think it makes sense. It pretty much is a GJOB special edition which heightens publicity. It doesn't appear to be targetted at the same group as a cup car, and is limited in numbers. Why not raise awareness of their success, and make a few quid along the way.

They have invested money to get this power, why not utilize it in a positive PR way.

Good on them I say

It's possible that this is just a reflash of the ECU to allow full throttle. If that's the case, then there's quite a profit margin there for 10 minutes of work! I can see it now - A few suits standing around the water cooler. "Hey, I just had a great idea about how we can make a quick quarter of a million dollars from S buyers!"

I tend to agree ecept it seems a "cadena gt3 replica" would seem to make a bit more sense on a cup car. However by doing this they allow someone who wants the look on an S have what he wants and the owner who wants a Cup can order it with the Gt pack.

Sensible i guess...

Is that 5,000 pounds for the GT pack, if it is its great value. Those brakes are nearly 2,000 pounds normally and the ohlins about the same, plus all the other bits, accusump, stainless lines etc....seems quite good.

Just read the press release. It does not say it is limited to 25. It says it is initially limited to 25. Don't think they won't be selling it over here (if CARB nazis approve... CARB ruins all the fun).

Note also that on the Specifications pages it mentions Metal Matrix Composites... does that mean it has MMC rotors? What else could be MMC on the car?

The brakes page only says:
"308mm 2-piece front discs with four piston calipers, uprated brake pads and silicone fluid"

I want MMC.

With 250hp and over 900kgs, trust me, you don't.

I loved them on my S1 but when i see the problems i am having with full race pads and discs, on my std hp exige S, i cannot imagine the mmcs surviving.

I'm sure the British GT Special Edition will be made available in the States at the end of the "S" run -- just like the Elise S. That's an easy one for LCU -- no new Federal certification required.

The GT pack may be a more difficult offering for us over-governed Colonies, at least until Lotus decides to bring in the US certified 243 HP version of the S.

Get ready for an all new "debate thread" about how Lotus is screwing its loyal customers by continually improving its cars' performance capabilities -- what rubbish.

Keep up the good work Lotus!

There is no other car for any amount of money that I would rather own and drive.

I still think they sit around the board table and play game to see how many models than can come up with. I know let me have it.

I just don't get the small incremental changes. Why didn't they make this "S" to begin with. The could have still thrown some stickers on it and called it the whatever GT addition they wanted.

Come on Mitch is that really necessary? You know exactly what I mean. Why couldn't the Exige S have been rated at 250, the one being offered now at 218bhp. And know it's not that hard . . .

not tring to bust your chops mark , but that is how they put it in the brochure, post reg conversion, so it should be able to be done to the reg. sc exige, as other have said, could be ecu and pulley, injectors or a comb. I been here before bought a boxster, they come out with an boxster s, same old, new and improved game. These guy are just making money like a car company. My only request that is that they support the aftermarket, and give us goodies at affordable prices, to ask us to trade a 50k elise and loose 15 plus thousands for a s/c, I know I would rather give them 5-6k and keep my car, I have sorted it and just want the ponies, the wings and extra scoops they can keep.

No I know and I hear you. I too hope that Lotus supports the aftermarket. I see myself in the same boat as you. I like MY car and have become fond of when in reality it is just the same as the next Exige. I too would be willing to part with some cash for Lotus supplied upgrades.
