Lightbulb Does the exige have a limited slip diff?

Does the exige have a limited slip differential?
If not, can that be added?
Anyone know the cost of such a upgrade?
Does the entire transaxle have to be replaced?

thanks

You cannot tell from the VIN - the options that the car was made with is (for the most part) not contained in the VIN.

As reported in the other threads, there my be "LSD" written on the transmission case - but there is no guarantee that the absence of markings means no LSD.

If you do not have the Traction Control, you do not have the LSD from the factory - No TC means no LSD. But you can have TC without LSD.

Other than the above, the only way to tell (without taking things apart) is to know how the difference between with and without feels.

One crude method to determine the existence of LSD is to stop the car with one tire on dry pavement, and the other on dirt/sand/slippery surface. Rev the engine and dump the clutch. Assuming that you have tunned off the TC (if you don't have TC no need to do the test anyway), if both tires spin you most likely have an LSD. If only the one tire (on the low traction surface) spins, you most likely do not have an LSD. If neither tire spins, you didn't try hard enough.

Other tests that involve raising the rear of the car and turning one of the wheels do not work with a Torsen type of LSD installed in our cars.

Come to my home track and turn off traction control - if the driver's mirror fills with smoke in turn #8 and the car doesn't seem to go anywhere, you don't have an LSD.

There is a copy of the early manual (doesn't include the Traction Control or the LSD) available for download - information in this thread: Elise Owner's Manaul .PDF

Everyone with an Elise/Exige should read the Owner's Manual cover to cover - there is lots of good information about all the car's quirks in there.

Then go to LCU's web site and download the factory Service Manual for $25 - every owner needs a copy.

Finally, go to the Club111.NET web site and get the Parts List in the download section - it provides exploded views of the car and the parts list.
