engine life and track time
Hi
I am looking at purchasing an Exige and see some that have had a fair amount of track time. i have heard of oil starvation issues. I wanted to ask if you thought this was a concern and what to look for if there is an engine issue. thanks Ed Last edited by lotus90 : 09-28-2009 at 12:11 PM. |

Have the car taken to a qualified mechanic and do a proper leakdown test. If that looks good you're probably in pretty good shape, provided it is typical low-mileage elise. These engines can take a ton of USE, just not ABUSE. Additionally, have the mechanic pull the valve-cover and inspect the cams for wear. Early wear on cam lobes has been seen before.

They are tough engines. Oil stavation issues are caused by running with slicks on a stock oil pan. Oil drains away from the pick-up, and the result is a spun bearing. If you are going to track the car, use the Moroso oil pan or Accusump. Both of these take care of the oil stavation problem.
