Exige 260 one of the 10 best?

The Exige Sport 260 is in the running for Car and Drivers 10 best. Not sure it will make the final 10 but here is the creative write up....

Fans of Stanley Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” will remember the scene in which young Alex and his droogs steal a low-slung sports car and ride off into the night. The boys bay and holler en route to committing more ultraviolence, as the voiceover says, “The Durango 95 purred away real horrorshow.” While driving the Exige S, I couldn’t get that scene out of my mind. The car is impossibly low—you’re eye-to-tailpipe with most trucks—and the sensation of speed at the depth is staggering. Darty, raucous, and flyweight, 40 mph in the supercharged, Toyota-powered, 257-hp Exige S 260 Sport feels like 100 or more in a so-called “sports car.” But what it feels like, mostly—and hence the Clockwork Orange fantasy—is illegal. I’ve driven shifter karts with more safety equipment. This is the vehicular equivalent of doing [censored] with a Brazilian [censored]. I had to smoke a cigarette after I drove it. Yeah, it’s real horrorshow.

The 10Best winners will be announced in Car and Drivers January 2010 issue on newsstands on December 5.

Yep, bunch of woosies. Probably still can't firgure out you can sell a line of cars without an automatic transmission. Surprised they had no comment about the lack of a rear view mirror. hey hey hey that was the car lotus just had at the Autocross here in Greensboro, NC two weekends ago, its burnt orange. It is very sick, I must say. My favorite part is the carbon hardtop and rear window delete... and the seats... and the carbon engine lid... and the carbon dash. The whole thing is done very nice, the first 260 I've seen.

American car mags are pretty much all advetisng driven anyhow. They like whatever has the biggest ad budget as that is how they survive, Why praide a true sportcar when they can kowtow to GM or Ford. No doubt the.' new' Corvette or Challenger will win. I find the same in US motorcycle mags. The Brith mags are more attuned to the real enthusiats than our pubs. Dave
