Exige Front Splitter Protection Kit

I made a front splitter protection kit for my Exige S. I used the same material 2sporty used for his kit on the Elise. It gives me a piece of mind when I approaching a minorly steep driveway. Scraping the protection is better than scraping the splitter (I cringe at that sound).

Interesting but keep an eye on the parts of the clam that hang down on the corners. The Exige clam is wider in the front at the bottom, in front of the wheels, than the Elise, and this part can take a beating from steep approaches/departures.

Good point! From your suggestion, I made templates for the area you mentioned on the clam in front the of the wheels. I cut material and will mount them tomorrow when I have more light. I've only had the car 6 weeks and have luckily only hit the splitter once and that was on the test drive. I've been real careful since. Thanks again for your advice!!

Are you going to make these and sell them to the rest of us?

Were you interested in the protection for the splitter only or also for the clam(in front of the tires) as codymac suggested? I could calculate the yield from the the sheet I purchased to figure costs. I wouldn't mind making a few. Is anybody else interested?

Both, since it would be preferred to buy from one source instead of two!

Am I the only guy who thinks the Exige has plenty of clearance? I scraped a grand total of one time in 13 months of ownership and it was pulling into a store in a narrow driveway where I could not approach from an angle. Seriously, angled approach will negate the need for such a thing, not to mention that it does not shatter or chip like the Elise clam points, it simply makes a little scuff in the paint that would only be detected by people who are less than 3" tall.

All I know is this: the very first time I drove an Exige S, I scraped the front within the first 60 feet of driving the car (as I pulled out of the dealers driveway). The most unsettling thing about it: I was being careful not to scrape, and went out at an angle!

I think you'll be happy you protected that area as well. IIRC, the splitter (black, for the NA Exige) was ~$200 when I checked on it. Fortunately, you pretty much have to be under the car to see the part of the clam that will contact.

I mounted the protection on the clam where codymac suggested (in front of the tires). I can see now that this area can be damaged/scraped on an incline. Protection will help tremendously.

No, I think it's fine.

Still, I've banged and scraped my splitter more times than I can count, so any sort of protection would be moot at this point. We live on a hill and most of those scrapes occurred in the first couple of months of ownership, while I was still getting used to a low-slung sports car and before I figured out the trick to backing out of the steep driveway. Once I'm out of the driveway, I remember banging the splitter maybe three times, all from not paying sufficient attention.

Note that I don't have the track pack and I run the stock ride height. Given that I only have millimeters of clearance coming out of the driveway, I can't really lower the car any more.

Like the King says, as many times as I've hit it, you need to be under the car to see anything.

I have done about 17k miles in my Exige and scraped it many times. The splitter still looks like new. I have the track pack and run at about 120mm hight. This product will reduce your clearance by about 3-4 mm and make you more likely to scrape.

Couple that with the fact that it is $240 dollars for a new one and it bolts on in 10 min...

I'll try to take some pics today and post them later. The clam part in front of the front tires is where I put the protection. This part of the clam is exposed on an angled approach/exit of an incline. I use the same material that 2Sporty used on his protection kits for the Elise. It's an adhesive backed polyurethane which highly abrasion resistant.
