I don't know about tollgates but I was wondering today whether an elise could fit under an 18 wheeler.

Yaers ago I worked at Stanford Hospital in palo Alto, California. I was a lowley little maintenance worker but I drove a Europa. The doctors and sturgeons had their own little elitest parking area that was circled off by a chain and a little gate that they could get into with a card pass. I found that I could pull up to the chain and reach out to lift it over the Europa and get in. To drive out the gate was automatic and didn't require the card. They actually posted someone out there to watch and see how that car was getting in there. All them brainiacs couldn't simply figure it out. They told me to stop it but I didn't. They never really did anything about it because the doctor that drove the Rolls and the one that drove the Aston Martin both stuck up for me and said my Lotus didn't belong out in the general parking. Bottom line... you'll be amazed where these little cars will fit. As for the under the big rig thing... let Jackie Chan try that one... he'll try ANYTHING!!!!

I've had to drive my M Coupe out of a tollbooth gate at a metro station at 3AM once. I needed the car the next morning, and all the booths were man-operated. Obviously, no one was there, and I had to get home. So I left 1.50 in the booth and managed to fit the car underneath with a little help from my friend who raised it slightly (theres a little play in those things)

Point being, the elise/exige is substantially shorter than the M Coupe.

I believe every tollgate arm is of different height, therefore, answer unknown.

Hmmm... oh well. I was just curious because when the Elises came out I remember that the Lotus guys were driving them under the gates at the LA auto show.

I don't think the Elise would fit under the IL tollbooth gates, but I know someone who used to take them at speed in his Europa.
