Exige: Where to buy?

My wife and I are looking to purchase an Exige.
We live in northern California, and would ideally like to purchase from a dealer within 500 miles of there. We are willing to wait a while to take delivery; in fact, 8-12 months from now would be ideal. Does anyone know of any available pre-order slots in northern California? Also, we want to purchase at MSRP. Any feedback about which dealers in the area have been willing to sell at or near MSRP would also be helpful. Any recommendations as to which Lotus dealers have been good or bad in doing business is also appreciated.

Thanks.
Ned

I know a guy from San Francisco bought one of the Exiges from Lotus of Durham. I doubt that was because he could get one close to home. They have a web site.

You can find some discussions on various dealers in this section. Your Northern CA choices are Silicon Valley Auto Group (Los Gatos), Boardwalk (Redwood City), BMG (San Francisco), and a new one in Sacramento who's name escapes me at the moment. SVAG was selling at MSRP, I think BMG was too. Last I heard of Boardwalk they were asking a premium. Not sure about the Sac dealer.

Edit: there's also Smith Volvo (& Lotus, obviously ) in San Luis Obispo, not quite Northern CA but people have reported very good experiences with them so they might be worth talking to as well.

I purchased my Exige at Lotus of Sacramento at MSRP. They are a new dealer and have been really nice. (Especially because I am #1) The SF dealers are asking a premium. I did contact Smith Volvo in SB. They would not commit to any price. (meaning a price gouge) Waiting 8-12 months puts you in a position to buy one used because I supect the 350 US allotment will be long gone.

I am still driving my Elise. The Exige won't be built for a couple weeks. I got the ST with track pack, touring. Have the Argray exhaust and Maxogen waiting in the garage for the car. BTW.is the scoop on the roof functional? I have heard it both ways.

It's blocked off unless you have the supercharged model.

It is not functional on the standard Exige, but could be made so. It is only functional on the supercharged models (240R) and feeds air to the intercooler.

I'd like to think that the Exige will be a very limited car in the future, but I have my doubts.

Everything I read says that "Lotus estimates selling between 250-350 cars in the U.S. each year".

#1 - That's very different from saying "production / sales will be strictly limited to 300 cars." They could (and probably will) build more if there is a demand & way to make more $$ off the Exige. I'd love to see a specific and limited run of cars with number plaques, etc.

#2 - The "per year" thing irks me. How many years will they sell it? If they've figured out a bumper fix that gets them around the exemption (as has been reported), then they could build '07 and '08 Exiges too.

Like most people, I'm motivated by self-interest. I want them to build one for me & then I want them to stop building them altogether.

I just think Lotus doesn't anticipating finding more than 300 warped people with $ for a silly car who would also be screwy enough to actually buy one.

I currently still have a deposite down for a slot at Silicon Valley Auto Group. I didn't pick the options yet. I was suppose to pick last November for a April build date. Might be going with something else instead. Not sure if SVAG allows spot transfers but pm me if you're interested.

Who knows? The S1 numbers are downright tiny and even at max production it's not like they can crank out the S2s in huge volume.

You mean: "Warped people like us."

buy Mark Starr's (from HRM) Exige. He's selling at MSRP, and it's a hot color - CO!

I have my doubts too. I suspect Lotus will offer a higher horsepower option next year (perhaps supercharged) to continue Exige sales. That will attract a lot of future buyers. I think the whole idea of not offering a supercharged version this year was a marketing plan. They knew a certain segment of Lotus fans would buy the Exige, with or without the super charger. By offering it later, they will sell more cars overall.

At least that would be my plan if I controlled such things. But I'm with you - I'd like them to stop production entirely . . . right after I get my car.

the fed exemption should be running out on Lotus too. But I'm sure Lotus will flood the market with as many Elises/Exiges they can before the Feds say STOP!

It is the right color, but isn't equipped like I want it. The entire purpose of buying new is to get exactly what I want. Otherwise, I would just wait it out and see what the market does.

If they have to put bumpers on the car to comply with US standards, I suspect the weight issue will be a problem and they will have to supercharge the car in order to maintain the performance. It is my opinion that it made no monetary sense to offer a supercharged version this year when the import numbers to the US were held at 350.

The problem I see for 07 is that by adding bumpers and a supercharger, the price of the Exige will be up around $60k and $65k+ with "must have" options. This is getting into the realm of competition with the base model 911 which at least has drink holders.

But I doubt the bumpers will weigh an extra 1200 pounds like the 911.

I hope they do offer it, even if it's only in the future. That brings retrofitting it into the realm of possibility.
