I can personally attest to the value of the Spring Mountain driving school. Very well organized, and a good way to learn more about how to drive a Lotus!
The best part?? You drive THEIR cars, not your own. Later on you may want to drive your own, but not for instructional use. The other thing about using their cars, is you get to see how a Lotus with 4000-14000 track miles holds up. When I took the class, I drove 10 different cars, all live at the track and never get driven on the road. I was surprised how well the cars drove even with nothing but constant track use. Of course, they maintain them properly. The cars are all n/a Elises, with one '06 n/a Exige. You don't need the boosted cars to learn the track. Also, they had a race prepped Elise with full cup car cage, fixed racing driver seat, and a few other suspension goodies, etc. They let me drive that one, and of course it was somewhat more responsive, but not as different as I expected. Point is, the cars are pretty decent as they come from the factory. Of course there are improvements that can be made, but not necessary for learning and getting seat time in. My $.02, fwiw. |

I agree with what everyone has said. For me extracting as much as possible from the car is just as rewarding as learning to drive it well.
I just mod my cars. It's part of what I love about owning a car. In my opinion no matter who the manufacturer is they are going to have to appease the bean counters and dial back the car in order to meet a certain price point. So I guess you could say I believe in the after market as well as the factory for improving the performance of the car.

Cheapest way to stop fuel starvation is just don't track with less than half a tank. Almost all tracks have a fuel station near by. It isn't worth my time or money to put the S111 tank in or have my stock one modified when i can just top off after an hour or so on track. I'll dig out my alignment specs when I get home if you want something to go off of. Seems to work good for me and ChiliRed, but alignment feel is a personal choice. |
