Question Noob needs help - Differences 2006 - 2009?

Hi Lotus people,

This is my first post on LotusTalk although I'm active on a number of Porsche forums. I drive a 996 GT3 RS as my daily driver and I'm looking to buy an Exige for the track.

I have found a nice 2006 Exige S with just 7000 km and no track time, so I'm considering buying it. It has the super touring pack, whatever that is, but I would prefer a performance / track pack. So a couple questions;

1) What are the differences between a 2006 car and a new one? What should I be concerned about if I buy the 2006?

2) How much performance stuff can be retrofitted? LSD, TC, brakes, clutch, suspension etc. Also, what's involved in upping power a bit. I live at 6000 feet altitude so getting some extra power really helps.

I have driven a 2009 S 240 on road and track and I loved it. I'm hoping I can make a 2006 S 220 feel like that and still save a bunch over buying new.

Thanks in advance for any input.

There was no 2006 Exige-S, only 2007. 06 was NA and 07 was SC'd with 218 horse power.

Ok thanks, so then the one I'm looking at must be a 2007. I still have the same questions though.

You will have to do some wiring work to get the TC done. CharlieX can probably turn it on in the ECU, but you will need to add a few wires to the harness and source the knob for it. Not quite sure why TC is even needed though. Unless you are doing 1/4 miles or street racing. I guess it could come in handy there...

LSD is an easy fix, just swap trannys.

Brakes, clutch, suspension are almost all the same on all models.

You can get the AP Racing brakes for any of the models, but I've never felt that I need them over stock. I think the 240 has the same clutch as the rest, but not 100%.

I went the 06 route then added a VF stage 3 kit (292rwhp for mine). Of course that required a new clutch and since I was in there a new flywheel. Then I added a moroso oil pan for oil starvation, catch cans for the blowby from increased boost. Also an upgraded fuel pump was needed for this power level. Then suspension was a bit sub par, so I went with the Nitrons from S111....

If you can't tell this is a never ending cycle. End result, I have more money tied up in my 06 than a stock S240. But hey, it's faster and probably handles better. But the S240 would have been a better start. It just wasn't out when I began this journey.

Only for USA. ROW had a 2006 Exige S.
