What is involved in replacing the stock oil pan with the Moroso or Bemani? Is it a straight-forward swap, or is there a lot of stuff to move out of the way. Can it be done with a set of ramps, or is a lift necessary?

I think the early pans may have required some fettling to fit. I know mine did not. Fit right on with no problems. It has been just fine, no leaks and is sturdy (and flat enough) enough to support the weight of the entire engine if sitting on a table. I know this for a fact

Best,

Phil

Does anyone know if installing a Moroso pan void's the warranty? And if none is installed, does anyone know if Lotus covers oil starvation under the warranty?

Legally the dealer has to provide a reasonable explaination as to how any modification resulted in the work / parts not covered by the warranty.

If you read the fine print, adverse driving conditions (i.e.taking this car out on the track) can void the warranty (if the dealer is being difficult).

In the end it will depend upon: a) what's wrong and b) the attitude of your local Lotus dealership.

IMHO, if I take it to a dealership for work and they say "Such and such needs to be fixed and that's not covered by the warranty." odds are that I'll tell them, button it all up, AAA will be there in a half hour and I'll have the car brought home or sent to an independent shop.

Clinton and the guys at GHM have done a good job for me putting on the Moroso pan and doing a track alignment. So if you are in H-town and looking for an independent Lotus shop, I'd say give them a call.

Buy a Moroso, doesn't matter from who...then take it to a metal fabricator and have it shaved. The problem with all oil pans is that they are formet then the flange is welded on and it warps everything. Once you have it shaved/planed, use Porsche's goop and presto...no leaks!!! Easy and safe project, Lotus cannot have a problem with it unless it fails.

Just put a Moroso pan in yesterday. This pan was purchaswed new about 6 weeks ago.

RESULTS: small hairline leak at one of the welds. It was easiierto get it TIG'ed than return it. The pan has beautiful looking welds -- but I suspect no pressure testing. Used sealant supplied by Toyota for Oil Pans. Not aware of warping, did not "trim" anything. Four studs need to be inserted -- after the pan is up. Looks like it"s sealed now.

You don't have to wait for an rls/Bell intercooler as I've got one for sale.
