[quote=Jack;818809]Car and Driver is wrong. Besides, what do they know -- they're only a car magazine.

http://www.caranddriver.com/previews...s-exige-s.html

To the Toyota-sourced 1.8-liter four-cylinder that powers Lotus’ entire lineup, the company has added a Roots-type supercharger making 7 psi of boost and an air-to-air intercooler fed by the roof-mounted air scoop. Horsepower is up 30 to 220 at 7800 rpm and torque swells from 133 pound-feet to 165 at 5600 rpm. That’s not a huge gain, but Lotus doesn’t want to overstress the engine internals that are identical to the naturally aspirated version. That, and Lotus wouldn’t want to out-do the non-street-legal, limited-edition, 243-hp, $78,990 Lotus Sport Exige Cup that has essentially the same supercharged powertrain

Just because Car and Driver (or any other car magazine) publishes something, doesn't mean it's true.

If they printed your car has Goodyear tires as stock equipment and you go out to your car right now and see Yokohama's - does that mean they are right and you are wrong?

I don't think anybody disbelieved you when you said C&D printed that - we all just knew better...

Road and Track list at 7.3 lbs, so who is right ? http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=4420

Lotus does list the boost at 0.5 bar in the tech manual, which is 7.251 lbs , however everyone that i know thats measured it (including me), has only seen just under 6 lbs which is 0.41 bar.

Its probably because the official figure is derived by some other metric, or is the perfect or mathematical verison.

Or someone changed the specs, and forgot to update it.

5.88 PSI -- reliable sources at LMS in England gave me that # (actually, they specified boost in BAR -- ~.4)...but we need a real world test. Charlie install that boost gauge.

I did install it ages ago ! I'd say 5.88 was pretty accurate.

Cool

How much boost the 2ZZ-GE can handle in his stock form ? The compression in the engine is very high but I think we could run 7-8PSI without problems... My friends just bought a jackson racing supercharge and have it in his 2003 RSX without any modification did to the engine and the kit is set at 7.5 psi.

5 PSI his way too low in my opinion. We should have at least 7PSI and with that 2extra PSI it would make the car even more fun to drive for the sound ( more noise coming from the supercharge) and more power!!! May be 20 HP more.

Anybody know if a pulley is available to raise our boost level from 5 PSI to 7-8 PSI ???

I believe the Sector111 Katana is running 7psi without an intercooler

Katana (Greddy) pulley is 8.5 PSI -- see Sector's website.

Do I need to tune the ecu if I raise the boost to 8.5 PSI ??? ( Need more fuel into the engine to keep the same air fuel ratio ? )

Is there any way I could download and store the Gotham tune (to save it just in case something happens and I need to reflash the ECU)?

...and reflash with the stock program myself if necessary?

Charlie,

IIRC you mentioned at one time that you could set up a switchable dual map system.

I have an extra ecu to send for the gotham flash and need to know if this option is available yet and what extra equipment I would need and cost info

feel free to PM me if need be

Thanks

Glenn

I haven't made a switchable version of this map yet, its very low on the priority list.

I think the issue is that poeple are referencing two different things. The engine may peak 7.5 PSI on the lower cam, but when the second cam profile engages and the efficiency of the motor increases the "boost" level can easily drop even though engine still makes the same amount of torque.

Also, Sector111 is pretty honest in the power output despite the name. They do show a stock Exige S at 203HP and the Gotham kit at 230HP...so thats a 30HP upgraded...so Gotham 250 or 255 would be more accurate in my opinion....but they don't make claims thats your going to get 45HP out of it of a regular Exige S (220HP).

With that in mind, Lotus has been selling the Cup cars with similar hardware setups and similar power output for a couple years now, so I don't doubt that the engine will take it in stride.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this if I owned an S. Charlie tells me I have one of his early beta flashes, and aside from a few gurgles about 15 seconds after a cold start I don't have any issues with it. I can imagine he's made alot of progress since then.

If you need that old tune updated let me know (presuming the car lives that is)

as for the numbers claim, its 15% which should be listed, but all that really matters is powerband on the dyno figures. Peak HP is really a worthless metric i think

i've never seen any boost higher than a tad under 6lbs.
