Should I buy this 08 Exige S 240
I've been looking at lotus's for several years and found a 08 Exige S 240 leftover at a dealer, it is phantom black has touring, track packages, star shield and an MSRP $73k I've talked them down to $50k... whats the resale of the car, is 50K less than what the car is worth? Is this too good of a deal to pass?

Brand new or demo. Sounds like a great deal if new.
I'd grab it before someone else does.

If this car is new, with only very low delivery miles and has not been used as a demo, this is a good deal. Just make sure it was not a demo or has too many miles on it to be considered new or you will not get the full warranty, only the remainder of it from whenever they started using it. Remember, the minute you drive that car off the lot it is just another two year old car to anyone else if you try to sell it, granted it will have very low miles, but it is still a two year old car. Also make sure the dealership has done all the fluids maintenance a two year old vehicle would normally receive and be sure to check all the rubber seals, trim and the wiper blades for deterioration if the car was left outside. You also should make sure the tires haven't become permanently flat spotted from sitting for so long. Being a black car you will know right away if it has been left outside by the amount of small scratches and hazing in the paint. I bought my Elise as a left over and was able to get a great deal on it. I haven't regretted it and it appears you can do well on this car too. Good luck!

The programs may not reflect in the mileage as the dealers were simply encouraged to register the vehicles as sold to the manufacture sovlotus could count the vehicle as a sold unit.

Car salesmen strike again
Turns out the probably 50k turned into 60k.
i went to buy and they forgot the conversation we had a week ago. im still thinking bout the car might be able to get them down to 58 range. |

I hate to say it but I suspected the 50K figure to be a bit low - too low. One of those too good to be true. You did the right thing by leaving. I would be highly skeptical of their BS at this point. Not worth it, even if you did get them down a few $ - this isn't ethical or good business. It's your $, do what you want - but that would be a deal breaker and I would make sure to share with everyone your experience.

I smell a rat. Walk away... give them your number if they want to sell it to you for the original price of $50K.

Assuming they are an authorized dealer, maybe meet each other halfway - $55k. That should mitigate any miscommunication/misunderstanding.
Or wait a bit (as suggested by others) since winter is closing in, they might get desperate again. I suspect they might have a few tire-kickers since last week and they were holding out for those (higher) offers... |

Sadly this is an old car-dealer trick. They give you a "I think we can do it for $ price" - then you tell all your friends you are getting a new car, you mentally commit to the purchase etc.etc.
Then when you attempt to purchase the vehicle it's "my manager won't let me" or you must have misunderstood or blah blah blah. ![]() They are betting you will quietly pay the difference or a newly negotiated amount because you and everyone you know is expecting to see you in the new car. Here's what you need to do... GO SOMEWHERE ELSE and never go back They don't deserve your business or anyone else's for that matter. Who are these *ricks?
